'Crash,' 'Empire of the Sun' author J.G. Ballard dies
The author of the autobiographical "Empire of the Sun" and "Crash" passed away Sunday, April 19 in the London home of his longtime partner, reports the Los Angeles Times. Although he had been diagnosed with advanced prostate cancer, no specific cause of death was cited.
Another work, "Crash," was more controversial, dealing with car-crash sexual fetishism and was also made into a movie by David Cronenberg.
The word "Ballardian" was coined and is defined as "resembling or suggestive of the conditions described in J. G. Ballard's novels and stories, especially dystopian modernity, bleak man-made landscapes and the psychological effects of technological, social or environmental developments," according to the Collins English Dictionary.
