Is 'One Tree Hill's' Chad Michael Murray just holding out for more cash?
By now, all web savvy "One Tree Hill" fans have seen the YouTube video shot by a fellow viewer in which series star Chad Michael Murray claims that he's not returning to the show next year because "they don't want me... they wanna save money." If not, you can watch it below.
In the video, Chad also encourages fans to go online to "blog and be pissed off that they don't want me back." The "they" he refers to is of course assumed to be the network, the studio and/or the series' producers.
This comes less than a month after CMM's costar Hilarie Burton posted her own cryptic online clip which seemed to confirm that she too will be absent from "One Tree Hill"'s seventh season.
The notion that Murray and Burton are not a lock for the show next year is no surprise to those who have been following the saga. Even before the aforementioned videos were posted, rumors of their departure ran rampant across the web. However, sources close to "One Tree Hill" say the stars' situation is not settled as of now.
The network and studio have declined to comment on any of the Murray/Burton drama, but insiders tell me negotiations with Hilarie and Chad are still ongoing and that the video below is just another example of an actor reaching out to the press with the hope of gaining additional bargaining power.
So, is that what this is all about? The Benjamins?
Boy, am I naive. I just assumed the two of them wanted to pursue movie careers or something...

CMM is such an unconscionable guy (I'll never get over what he did to the gorgeous Sophia!) that I wouldn't put it past him to do this just to get a bigger paycheck. I stopped watching the show 1/2 way through this season because Hilary and CMM started to really annoy me (which is odd, because initially they were my favourite characters). I think the show could only improve if they left, although I honestly think they should just conclude the series altogether.
It sounds like they want more money or why bring it up?
Yep but he makes it sound like they just don't want him at all. I find that hard to believe. He must just want more money.
Cl***y
I think that Chad and Hilarie should I don't know WAIT and see if the show gets picked up for a 8th season before wanting more money, because at that time Studios and TV networks may be in a better position to pay them what they want and keep them on board, but right now with the economy the way it is I think they should take one for the team and shut the heck up. Plus at this point if the rest of the cast hasn't gotten pay raises Chad and Hilarie shouldn't either, since it isn't just about Lucas and Payton anymore the other characters are far more interesting then they are and have a strong fan base.
What an arrogant schmuck. Are producers lining up at CMM's doorstep with new projects? Shoot, an insider at his own network once summed up Chad's talent: "Meh."
Uh.... neither of them HAVE movie careers.... nor can I forsee any chance of them. I have stuck by OTH, until the christmas hiatus last year and just haven't gotten around to want to catch up.... think it was noir episode of CMMs. Hmm. I say if they wanna leave, leave. So what if they're the principle characters, maybe now the others will get deserved screentime although I do agree that maybe this show is past its best.
P.s, I agree, allie, about CMMs lack of character (and I'm not talking Lucas here) I can't look at him without thinking about how he treated Sophia. Kudos to her for not letting it show through on the show!
I think they are holding out for a spinoff of their own show. They could call it "Lucas, Peyton and baby make three." Karen, Lucas' mother can guest star.
I think it is time for the show to end. How much more drama can there be for these characters?
this show is still on?
