VIDEO: HBO's 'Grey Gardens': Another camp classic or over-the-top bio-pic?

Greygardens Without a doubt, Jessica Lange is one of the great living American thespians and Drew Barrymore has such a high quotient of pure adorability that it's hard for us to ever say a word against her.

Still, the extended trailer for HBO's upcoming "Grey Gardens" has us wanting to steal a sentiment from Truman "That's-not-writing-it's-typing" Capote: That's not acting, it's makeup.

The HBO film will use the 1973 cult-classic documentary from filmmakers Albert and David Maysles as a jumping off point to cover four decades of eccentrics Edith "Big Edie" Ewing Bouvier Beale and her daughter, Little Edie's lives.

Adding to the camp factor, "Big Love's" Jeanne Tripplehorn will play Jackie Kennedy Onassis, Big Edie's niece and Little Edie's cousin.

With both the original documentary and the later-released extra footage, "The Beales of Grey Gardens," readily available for viewers to marvel over the faded glamour and general bizarreness of the codependent mother and daughter, one wonders what's the point of making others try to recreate it?

"Grey Gardens" will premiere Saturday, April 18 on HBO.

Why aren't they doing the musical?!?!

"...one wonders what's the point of making others try to recreate it?"

Hear, hear!

That's a stupid comment as it's NOT a remake of the do***entary. It delves into their lives decades prior to the Maysles Brothers and shows how they came to live in such squalor.

I actually was impressed by Barrymore's acting in that trailer.

I think it looks mighty good.

Watch the new trailer
