Exclusive: Will 'Lost's' Boone find life at The CW?

Memo to the cast member getting killed off "Lost" in a couple weeks: There is life after the Island.

Ian Somerhalder, the first of "Lost"'s major casualties, has worked somewhat steadily since his character Boone Carlyle took a nosedive in that tree-lodged aircraft. And sources now tell me he's very close to landing a role in The CW's "Vampire Diaries" pilot. 

"Vampire Diaries" is an adaptation of the novel series by the same name, which follows a teenage girl torn between two blood-sucking brothers. One of the boys, Stefan (Paul Wesley, "Fallen," "Everwood"), is clearly good; the other, Damon (Somerhalder),  is... more complicated.

The pilot is being written by "Dawson's Creek"'s Kevin Williamson and "Kyle XY"'s Julie Plec.

Sound promising? You excited about the possibility of seeing our boy Boone back on broadcast TV?

* UPDATE: Also on board are Zach Roerig, better known to me as "Friday Night Lights"' cowboy Cash, and Kayla Ewell ("The O.C.," "Entourage"), who will be brother and sister on the series. Nina Dobrev ("Degrassi: The Next Generation") and Steven R. McQueen ("Everwood") have been cast as well.
