'ER' essay -- The Los Angeles Times ruminates how over 15 seasons, the place has changed from a literal emergency room into a metaphor of crisis where every triumph is temporary because another disaster is on the way..

I've beeb a fan of ER since the very first episode viewed. I recall being on squad, serving an intercity Cleveland, Ohio area. A tough place to work, but ER brought a bit of hope and seemed so real, that for one hour every week the entire EMS staff would pause to view others facing the same type of stress that we lived with everyday. Thanks for a great show. Good luck and God Bless each of you who made ER such an important of my life and the lives of others. DAC

I am going to truly miss ER. I still remember the first episode I ever watched was the episode in which Mark died in Hawaii. I was moved to tears, but a show I had never seen before. It was then I decided I needed to catch up. Since the spring of 01, I have seen every epidsode now, and I feel as if I am part of the County family. I will miss this show, but I am also happy it is going out with what appears to be a well planned finale.

I loved all those episodes but my favorite is the one where there's a benzine leak in the ER and everyone's freaking out. Kerry Weaver's p***ed out and everyone is ARGUING... and you could see it in Carter's face.. and my entire family leans forward.. 'cmon carter... cmon Carter' And then he JUST TAKES CONTROL.

It ruled. I stopped watching when Mark died. It wasn't my County General at that point, though I've been watching some lately with affection.

I used to watch ER religiously for the first 5 or 6 seasons. My favorite episode was "Hell and High Water" - when Doug Ross saves the kid in the storm drain with the make-shift trachiotomy. I remember thinking, this guy Clooney is gonna be HUGE.

ER has been a welcome addition to my life since it aired back in 1993. I remember seeing the promos leading up to the pilot and something just told me...this is going to be good. Sure, there were seasons where things stumbled and stuttered, but a show this good always finds its way and it did. I've never been disappointed. I feel as if a large part of my life is coming to a close. Since, I used to plan my life around it, I guess it is. :) Thank you for so many years, tears, and triumphs on every artistic front imaginable.

It's amazing this show is almost over. It's been such a staple on NBC's schedule for so many years. And always on Thursday nights. Hopefully many tune in for the finale!

I have watched Er since the first episode! In August of 95 I left for Japan with my husband who was active duty USAF. A friend who is a Dr. promised to tape it every week and send them along with Chicago Hope as I liked both shows. It was great to sit and watch 6 hours of Er the hardest part was waiting another 5 weeks for the next tape. Everyone at the base Post Office knew I was the one with the Er tapes and I had to start a list to rotate the tape. I wishe we were not sending them back to tape over new episodes as it would have been great to have all those early episodes of Doug Ross. Its hard to believe its been 15 years and 9 children ago since Er came into my life. I will miss it, but I wish all the actors past and present the very best!

This is one of the best programs ever. I still enjoy it every week, and am sad to see it go.

i was 4 years old when ER first came on but i found myself catching up with episodes from a local tv station playing old reruns. I will miss ER because it just seemed so realistic. It was truly amazing. There was never an episode I've seen where I was disappointed
