Breaking: 'Friday Night Lights' to return for 26 more episodes

Kelly_kitsch Tis true, Dillon Panther fans. NBC and DirecTV have hammered out a deal which insures the return of "Friday Night Lights" for a fourth and fifth season, both to span 13 eps. You can read all the business affair type details here.

Sources tell me Kyle Chandler, Connie Britton and Aimee Teegarden (the Taylor family trifecta) will be back full time, while at least a few of the following actors -- Taylor Kitsch (Riggins), Minka Kelly (Lyla), Adrianne Palicki (Tyra) and Zach Gilford (Matt) -- are expected to return to the show without series regular status.

Would you be okay with watching "FNL" sans Riggins and Saracen?

My thoughts? Lyla? Tyra? Not essential to the greatness that is Dillon, Texas. Saracen, I adore, but it would be cool to see him in art school in Chicago, then bring him back home to deal with some grandma Lorraine issues whenever possible. But Tim Riggins? Let Riggs stay home to help Billy with his car repair garage. He can take college classes locally. He belongs in Dillon, done and done.

SO HAPPY SO HAPPY SO HAPPY SO HAPPY SO HAPPY SO HAPPY SO HAPPY

Thank goodness!!! I'm so relieved.

I know the FNL folks are genius - surely they'll be able to figure out a way to keep Matty and Riggins on a good bit.

I also can't wait to see how they take the show in its new direction... and no I'm not saying anything else...

I wouldn't watch without Riggins and Saracen they are the best thing about the show!

I'm psyched that FNL will be around for at least 2 more years. It is the best show and needs to stay on! I commend NBC for giving it the respect it deserves and keeping it on.

As long as the Taylors are on they can have anyone else in the cast! Riggs is cool and 7 is great but without Coach and the Mrs. this show would have lasted as long as Emril's sitcom or Majic Johnson's late night talk show.

You just made my day! This is great news.

As long as the Taylor family is all there, I'll watch it. The kids can come and go. I like them all, especially Matt, but I look forward to getting to know a new group a well.

Lyla and Tyra can stick around as long as they show up every couple of episodes throughout the two seasons (maybe the premiere, a mid-season episode, and the finale). I don't want to see either of them go through a Jason or Smash type arc as it would make no sense for either character.

Matt should stick around for at least all of season 4.

I am so happy about this! What a great drama and wonderful actors. I was really worried that they would not take into consideration that some of us watched on DTV and some are watching on NBC. YAY!!!

Good news for the series. I've heard great things about this show, but still haven't had the time to give it a go. Maybe this summer.

Very good news! But I live for Riggins screen time!

Unbelievably good news! This has made my day! (week? year?)This show is pure genius. Thank you NBC! Thank you Directv!
