'90210' returns Tuesday with departure rumors, a Dylan imposter & a couple dying relationships
"90210" finally returns tonight after a seven week break and since the West Bev population has been MIA for so long, I figured we should talk about what's coming up. Your questions, my answers...
Korbi, Is it true about Ethan leaving "90210"? -Caterina
Though the network and studio aren't confirming anything, it seems Dustin Milligan will indeed be stripped of his series regular status come next season. I recently spoke with him on set and he said that Ethan's sort of searching right now, becoming more introspective. I got the feeling that Ethan's quest for meaning may be what ultimately takes him out of the picture. Perhaps Beverly Hills isn't the best place to grow and gain character?
I don't understand why Dustin Milligan would want to leave "90210" now. Does he have another show lined up? -Alice
I don't think leaving the show was really Dustin's decision. Word is, he was not thrilled to get his walking papers from new exec producer Rebecca Rand Kirshner Sinclair.
Are Annie and Ethan done now? -Steph
Not yet. They start tonight's episode as a couple... that's not really talking. But by the end of the hour, Annie will be laying on the hood of a car up at make out point with some other dude.
So this kid Liam is supposed to be the new Dylan McKay? I don't see it. Dylan is Dylan. The guy would have to be pretty special to be compared to the great McKay -Christa
Shenae Grimes (Annie), who is the only regular cast member that knows the original "90210" well, was skeptical about this Liam is the new Dylan business too. She told me she wasn't buying it at first, but after seeing Matt Lanter work, she changed her mind. Me? After seeing this evening's hour, I'm still not convinced, but I'll give it some time. He doesn't have to be Dylan reincarnated, I just need him to be interesting, worthy of our attention, you know?
I remember you saying that Liam is going to have relationships with both Naomi and Annie. Is that still the plan? -Kate
Naomi will fall hard for this dude right from the start. And though he completely blows her off tonight and doesn't seem at all interested, she will win him over. I think he may even be taking her to the prom in May. His relationship with Annie, however, will build slowly. Shenae said Liam sort of challenges Annie. He doesn't believe that she's really as nice and sweet as she tries to come off. I guess he antagonizes her a bit and it sounds like the whole dynamic just reeks of sexual tension.
Korbi, Can you just tell us which long running "90210" couple will break up for good by next season? It's gotta be Silver and Dixon, but not knowing for sure is driving me crazy. -Deanna
All I can say is Silver and Dixon are definitely in for more difficult times. As I first told you back in January, Silver is about to suffer a mental breakdown and her issues with Dixon will set off a major episode tonight. I'll speak plainly, the girl done lost her mind.
Any news on my favorite "90210" character Navid? -Penn
I don't think he appears in this evening's new episode, actually. If he does, it's briefly. But he'll be back in a big way soon, don't worry. Like I said before, he and Adrianna are not done.
I am, however, done talking "90210" for today... unless you guys want to get a discussion going in the comments section. Anyone?

Hey Korbi, is it true that Ethan starts to fall for Silver by the season finale?
Here's why 90210 got off slowly: There were no really HOT guys cast. Dustin Milligan and Tristan Wilds are okay as a secondary guys, but the Navid character? No. The teacher? No. Shoot, even Annie's BF from Kansas put the whole cast to shame, looks-wise.
Whoever decided to bring in Matt Lanter: KUDOS. First off, the kid is just H-O-T. And he's got attitude.
To be honest, whoever cast this show originally should be fired. Teen-centered shows are all about finding the right HOT cast. Does anyone wonder why ABC Family is "out-teening" the CW on Mondays with "Secret Life..." and "Greek?"
I want this 90210 show to work, but it needs more fixin' than simply demoting Milligan. Rebecca can take a look at the females in the cast next. I think we all know who I mean.
Question: why does everyone have to compare current characters to the old show, i.e. "He's the new Dylan McKay."??
No, he's Liam...not Dylan. They're different people, and will not act the same. Maybe this new guy Liam will play the school rebel, but he's not a carbon-copy of Dylan. So stop the nonsense talk, including YOU, Korbi. Geez, how about letting the kid establish himself in more than one episode before you go raking him for not being Luke Perry Incarnate. Who wants THAT, anyway? Man, there's just no pleasing some people.
Amen, Jace. If these bloggers are so enthralled with the original characters, I suggest they go rent the DVD sets and stop the perpetual criticizing.
That said, don't forget Ozzie. He was an interesting sideline character. And George (played by Kellan Lutz from Twilight). They just disappeared, but in many ways were more popular than the regulars. To add to the above poster, something that killed the show early was the horrendous plots. Who gave the go-ahead on "Family Bowling Night?" Pink slip, immediately.
At least Liam sounds like an interesting character. Aside from maybe Dixon all of the guys on this show have been dull as dirt. It's been all about the girls. So I'm glad to see they're trying to fix that. Now if they'd just get rid of Annie that would really improve things.
I fear the CW has made a similar casting mistake (as they did with most of this 90210 group) on the Vampire Diaries series pilot. Paul Wesley as one of the two lead vampires? Come ON. Has Hollywood dried up completely or something? No more younger, fresher, better-looking talent available anymore? Really? Did cable steal it all? How do these casting directors get jobs in the first place, and keep them when their decisions bomb so badly?
90210 got off slowly because there are no interesting characters outside of Dixon and Silver. I don't need Liam to be Dylan. I just need him to be someone that holds my attention span. Maybe he could take some lessons from Tim Riggins or something. That said, I don't think blaming the actors is fair. The writing on this show needs to be punched up, they need to pen in some personality.
Sorry this is not a 90210 question because I really couldn't get into the show, its just not the same as the old one but a CW question..IN watching last nights OTH, it really looks like they are setting it up to be the last season for the show. Have you heard anything to confirm that? I hope they know in advance and have enough time for a proper good bye unlike another show on the CW (GG anyone?) Also, from some of your frenemies its looking like Peyton might not make it, is that true? I really hope if this is the last season the dont kill her off and we can get a happy ending. I hated when they did that to Michelle Williams on Dawson.
Don't worry, Manda, OTH has already been picked up for another season. Against better judgement, in all liklihood. Some of the fall pilots look much better than the current (and future) state of OTH, and sadly, OTH will cost one drama a slot on the schedule.
OTH flourished at the start of this year with the nanny, shooting, robbery, etc., but the everyday lives of these people--without turmoil--is just not compelling TV.
It needs to go.
