'Veronica Mars' movie hope still alive for Enrico Colantoni

Enricocolantoni_veronicamars_240 Enrico Colantoni is more than ready for a Veronica Mars movie, just like the rest of us.

The former Veronica Mars dad who currently stars on CBS' Flashpoint is definitely on board. "Unless they want Paul Giamatti to play Keith Mars," he joking tells Zap2it. "Do you know what I mean?"

Earlier this month, Veronica Mars creator Rob Thomas had said he was in the process of pitching his idea to studios and that he was scrapping the FBI academy idea and was keeping his pint-sized sleuth in college.

Colantoni confirms, "He's picking up right at the end of college."

But getting a greenlighted script may take some doing, and Thomas has his fingers in many pies. He wrote some scripts for The CW's 90210, reworked his matchmaking drama Cupid for ABC and is a co-executive producer on Starz's upcoming comedy series Party Down along with John Enbom, Dan Etheridge and Paul Rudd.

"I think Enbom is actually running Party Down," says Colantoni. "I think they're done with Cupid, and Rob says he's going to go home and write the movie. Now, he's still the executive producer of Party Down, but this is what I heard, that he's actually sitting down and writing the movie."

Colantoni will guest star in Party Down separately from Veronica Mars star Kristen Bell, who was just announced as the show's season finale guest star.

In the meantime, Colantoni is keeping his gig over at CBS as a gun-toting member of an elite tactical unit on Flashpoint and keeping in touch with the Veronica Mars alum occasionally.

"I see Jason Dohring at times," he reveals. "Kristen and I text message each other, but it's hard. She's busy. I'm in Toronto. We text message each other about hockey. She's a Red Wings fan. I'm a Leaves fan."

So there you have it, Veronica Mars fans. Keith Mars is telling you to keep the hope alive.

Flashpoint airs on Fridays on CBS at 9 p.m. ET/PT, and Party Down will premiere on Starz on Friday, March 20.

What do you think? Will a Veronica Mars mystery set on a college campus appeal to studio execs and see the light of day?

i can think of more deserving shows that need a movie, the last season was pretty bad imo

"LEAFS" fan. any good canadian boy would know that. I think you, zap2it, are misquoting him.

Unless it were a "reboot" I'm not sure a movie is necessary. I always felt like each season got progressively worse, and never truly wrapped up all the hanging threads from the previous one. Even so, it still was a great-acted, enjoyable television series that i still wish were on the air, I"m just not convinced a silver screen production is necessary.

easy, most TRUE canadians hate the leafs.

Veronica Mars was my favorite show-I liked everybody on it. I would totally love to see more. I miss it and I know I'm not the only one.

I love Kristin Bell and Enrico, but the series quickly went from great to disappointing.

I would not be interested in a movie if Thomas is in charge.

Despite the fact that I hate them with a p***ion, I must agree with Brian. It's "Leafs", as in the Toronto Maple Leafs. And no need to point out the grammatical inaccuracy, we're all well aware !!!

PS: Go HABS Go !!!

I love Veronica Mars and I have to disagree with the people who say it got worse every season. Season 3 was my favorite out of all of them. I love the character of Veronica so much. I NEED this movie to happen.

too little too late, i like the show, was very sad to see it go,but it should be left in our memories, and not revived, i rememeber when magnum pi ended, the first time with TM dying, the "extra" season was not very good and the final final was very so so.
