Demilovato_240 Sorry parents, but it doesn't look like the era of tween queens is going to die anytime soon now that Disney Channel's latest comedy Sonny With a Chance is the perfect fun and lively vehicle to showcase the talents of Demi Lovato.

The premise is simple: Allison "Sonny" Munroe (Lovato) has been posting her own comedy videos online and gets discovered by a Hollywood producer to become the newest cast member of the kids sketch comedy show So Random! When she and her mom move to Hollywood to pursue her showbiz dreams, Sonny encounters a wacky and oddly competitive bunch of fellow actors.

A couple episodes in, it's easy to see why Sonny With a Chance is so appealing:

Demi Lovato

She totes has cred for holding her own in the singing and acting departments against the Jonas Brothers in Camp Rock. Yes, she's pretty, but she plays the character warmly and quirkily enough for girls to identify with her, not resent her. Even if viewers don't want to be Sonny, they'll want to be her friend.

Bees Wish-fulfillment

Sonny is living the Hollywood dream -- the glamorous and the gory -- for us all. Gorgeous weather and palm trees, (fake) celebrity hissy fits, backstabbing, limos, awesomely over-the-top dressing rooms and a world in which adults are largely absent or ineffectual.

Silliness

The show is straight up goofy, and since the action is set around a sketch comedy show, you get lots of wacky costumes (bees!), catchphrases ("Who da mammal?") and slapstick. In one episode, the cast of So Random! challenges a rival show to a cutthroat game of musical chairs.

Sterling Girliness

With the show set in Hollywood and around a sketch comedy show, there's clothes and costume changes galore. The constant fashion parade is fun for the eye, but story-wise, girls will also identify with Sonny's bullying at the hands of Tawni (Tiffany Thornton), the resident Mean Girl, and Sonny's like-hate relationship with the cute Chad Dylan Cooper (Sterling Knight), star of fictional nighttime soap MacKenzie Falls.

Overall, Sonny With a Chance isn't breaking new ground, but it's a positive and light-hearted show with a charming star that will at least break up the reruns of Hannah Montana and Suite Life on rotation.

What did you think of the show? Do you like Miley Cyrus or Demi Lovato better?

I am not a fan of Demi Lovato at all. She does not fit my image of what a Disney star should be. I have the unrealistic expectation that DC stars should have a squeaky clean image and when I read an article about the Jonas Brothers in Rolling Stone and she was mentioned, I was not impressed. It said she likes Heavy Metal and dating heavy metal rockers. I was just like, that's not an appropriate thing for DC stars. In addition she completely ruined the song "That's How You Know," turning it into this horrid fake rock song.

Selena Gomez is the best!

Mark, I understand where you're coming from. But Demi Lovato has a much better reputation than the more popular Miley Cyrus, who is a big time DC star. She's not exactly squeaky clean these days (all the various scandals that she has had, and not to mention she is currently dating a 20-year-old man and just turned 16 herself). Yet she is still hired by Disney. And even if Demi Lovato does prefer dating heavy metal rockers, who's to say that all heavy metal rockers are satanists or something? That's pretty stereotypical of you. People shouldn't be judged based on the genre of music they perform.

jonas brothers rock!!

You don't think Demi is fit to be with Disney? Really? How do you justify that by saying she likes Metal? That has nothing to do with who she is as a person, period. And actually, she wrote a blog recently explaining to everyone how she's changed and matured and metal just really isn't her thing anymore. Infact, she's been listening to John Mayer lately. She's never had inappropriate photos like Miley Cyrus, Adrian Bailon and Vanessa Hudgens. Nor has she ever had a scandal or offended anyone. There is no reason for you to say that she isn't fit. You said it yourself, "unrealistic expectations". So suck it.

Demi Lovato is a great role model for girls everywhere. Mark you stated that she doesn't fit the Disney image, but who does fit the Disney image? Demi hasn't had a single scandal, no photos, or bad remarks. She shows girls how to be themselves, and truly respect themselves. All of us can learn a lot from Demi. Mark, you say Disney stars should be squeaky clean. You say that but what about Miley Cyrus? Vanessa Ann hudgens? Yeah, so Demi is personally my favorite Disney star, and her show is just one of those good o'l kids show that you can have fun watching.

Demi Lovato is the beset and she will be a good role model NOT LIKE SOMEPEOPLE(miley cyrus)who like to be to sexy to soon.

"Sonny With A Chance" is a good and funny show. It's TV-G. Just like "Mary Tyler Moore" was and just like "**** Van Dyke" was and "The Cosby Show" was and "Family Matters" was and "Home Improvement" was and so on and so on. It's a FAMILY TV Show, NOT a KIDS Show. If it was a kids show, it would be TV-Y. Simple. Also, I don't know if the first poster Mark is looking at these other comments but Demi Lovoto IS a good person. I don't know what you saw in Rolling Stone, or why you where reading about The Jonas Brothers, but Demi just like her BFF Selena Gomez and Miley Cyrus, is a Christian. She even has a pruity ring like Selena. She along with all the other Disney stars ARE good people. Disney Channel is one of the Networks I watch a lot and would like to see how the shows would do on ABC. Maybe in the summer like this...

Just saying. People think that Disney Channel is only for kids and if you watch it over the age of 14, it's wrong. It's not. I'm 23. Yes I said it. I am 23 years old. And I don't go with what people say and watch crap that is on our TV these days. I mean "Two And A Half Men" is pure crap. Sorry, but you can't tell me that you sit there and think everything you see on that show is just fine. It's not. It's as simple as that. And just so you know, most of the stars on Disney Channel are going to be acting and singing for a LONG time. And I think it's a great thing. You can say otherwise, but it does not make you right all the time. Everybody is right and wrong on different things.

I hope "Sonny With A Chance" is on from 2009-2013 with 4 great seasons. 25 Episodes each season! 100 Episodes overall. Clean family TV. Thanks you Disney.

P.S. If people think Disney should be showing old Disney shows they should have a network called "Cl***ic Disney" and leave the people who like The Disney Channel alone. Old time stuff is not what the people today want.

Ok, so we all know that Demi Lovato now has a new show out called "Sonny With A Chance". I have no problem with her as a Disney Channel star and as a performer onstage. But I think that her show isn't the best it could be. Yes there are some good parts to it, but I feel like the humor in Disney shows now days is getting worse. It's not even really funny anymore, just dumb and immature. I think that writers are just running out of ideas so they play off of old tv shows and completely ruin them. It would help if someone new came in and told them what kids really want to watch because things like "The Suite Life On Deck" and "Sonny With A Chance" isn't it. I'm just saying that Disney ratings have dropped and will continue to drop unless they can get kids interested again. All in all, I think Demi is a great role model and should continue acting as well as singing. But as for her show, I hope she comes to her senses and realizes that it's not all that she thinks it has turned out to be.
