Jesse Spencer Won't Be On Tonight's 'House' But We've Got Him Here...

Jessespencer Before we all get our panties in a bunch over the exclusion of Jesse Spencer and Jennifer Morrison from House's 100th episode -- which airs this evening -- let us consider a couple things: While the situation definitely sucks, tonight's hour is nothing more than a standard ep of the show, just as executive producer David Shore intended. And as this fifth season continues, the promise of more Spencer-Morrison screen time looms. Jesse muses on these subjects, his fans and why he's not a huge Chase-Cameron proponent with KTV reporter, Marisa Roffman...

So, everybody is celebrating the 100th episode, but you're not in it.
Jesse Spencer: It's not a special episode. It just happens to be the 100th episode.

Even if it isn't a "special" episode, you've got very passionate fans who will be really disappointed by your absence. They've been asking to see you more.
JS: Oh really? That's awesome, that's really cool. I hope they still like the show. I assume they do because the numbers are up. So they're still watching. So that's a good thing.

Will we be seeing you more in the future?
JS: Yeah, yeah. I think so. I think there's going to be more stuff at the end of season five, start of season six. Actually, I can say that's pretty definite. I haven't seen [the scripts] yet. I don't know what it will be exactly. I just know I'm going to be involved in a more substantial way in the episodes to come.

We saw Cameron briefly take on Cuddy's job. Might we see Chase more involved with the team, even temporarily?
JS: Am I going to be taking Foreman's place? [Laughs] No, it's going to be nothing like that. They haven't told me specifically what it is, which is smart of them, because otherwise I'd just tell you. I just know I'm going to be around more.

If you had to guess...
JS: It's probably going to be Chase/Cameron stuff.

Maybe furthering the Chase/Cameron relationship?
JS: Or destroying it. Maybe they'll destroy it. Maybe they'll break us up.

Fans seem to have a fondness for this couple, because we've been watching Chase and Cameron grow into this relationship for the past five years.
JS: I know a lot of people want more relationship stuff, but I'm not a fan of it. If it's pertinent to the show -- and we are essentially a procedural drama -- I don't mind it. But if it's just Chase and Cameron going bowling, who cares? As soon as you get away from that procedural element and start worrying about relationships between the characters too much, I think it gets soapy... for lack of a better term. We don't want to do that. I think our show works best when we rely and focus on what the show is, which is House and the procedural element and how these characters are involved in that.

Since we are celebrating the 100th episode today, what would you say is the biggest change Chase has undergone since the pilot?
JS: Wow. The biggest change? I think it's just the seasoning of all the characters. Since season four, [Chase, Cameron and Foreman] have been in different areas and I think it's just matured them more than anything. It's given them a sense of self-worth. Being under House is like being under a dictator more or less -- a good one, it's kind of the dictator you'd want to be under if you're going to be under one -- but I think over the four years, they did become more confident and found out who they are a bit more. We're becoming more like House over time, except our characters always seem to have [better] bedside manner, I think, than House.
But I kind of like the position that Chase [has been] in for the past couple of years. It's a different energy, not being in the differentials and doing something else. Sort of being on the sidelines, and if House needs something, Chase is more than likely going to do it for him and get the job done. Being on the side, it's more of an even level than before. I think everyone has a role to play and it'll be interesting to see where it goes.

Korbi, do you want to know why I think this interview sucks? Because I've already heard those promises before, and even if this time they're going to fulfill them it comes two years too late.

Do you have any idea what it is for a loyal fan of Cameron or Chase being told they would be back in full capacity by episode 6, then after the survivor arc, then because the strike messed with their plans they would be incorporated more at the beginning of season 5, then it's been 14 episodes and we still haven't seen more of them, and now that we know that they must be filming episode 18 or 19, we learn that we won't be seeing more of them until the end of the season 5 or beginning of season 6? two years!!! I've been waiting two years. Do you know how stupid that makes me feel?

Jesse is right, who wants to see Chase and Cameron go bowling or something like that. Sure they are cute together and all, but Jesse/Chase being his new independent self now is totally hot & sexy therefore I rather want to see that. And as he also rightly said, the show is about House and hopefully we see more House/Chase scenes in the future those are always pure gold!

Although I like Cameron and Chase, I think its time for their characters to move on. They are no longer on the team and serve no purpose to the stories. Cut them loose and get it over with. The actors deserve better too.

Eric, because Thirteen serves a purpose to the stories, right? I think it's time they write Thirteen off the show, and use her amount of screentime in other more interesting characters like Cameron, Chase and Wilson. It'd be a better show.

I really hope we'll finally get to see more Chase and Cameron, because it's high time for that after all the empty promises. But I for one really don't want to see more of them together. Jesse is right that focusing on relationships isn't what this show is about, and since House will always be the center of it, I'd love to see more of Chase's and Cameron's interactions with him. They don't work under him anymore and it's fascinating to see how this has changed their dynamics. I loved seeing Cameron and House interact in "Big Baby", and they could do something similar with Chase too, especially considering that his relationship with House has always been complicated.

I think it's funny that Jesse believes that too much focus on relationships would make the show too soapy.

That's many people's chief complaint about this season. Of course, since he's only had about three lines in all but one ep this entire season, I can forgive the guy if he isn't entirely awaqre of what's going on.

I do hope to see more of Jesse's Chase at some point, but I won't hold my breath, since I've heard it all before.

Hopefully this time Shore & Co finally keep their promise(s) to give Chase a bigger storyline/ more screentime in the near future. That the fans still ask and hope for more screentime after almost two years should tell them something. And that reporters ask Olivia Wilde/13 on tv: "Why don the fans hate your character so much?" should tell them something too (hopefully)!

Wow, Korbi, you've bought David Shore's BS that its not a special episode, haven't you? Of course, its a big deal - just ask Fox, the people making Shore's paycheck happen. They've gone to town with PR, parties & charity events around this. I don't believe for one minute that Shore is bringing Chase & Cameron back in s6, its just more of the same lies they've been spouting for the last two years. I'll give Jesse credit, he's putting a good face on this, unlike that idiot Olivia Wilde & her "people don't like 13 because they're ****phobes" nonsense.

Thanks for the interview, Korbi!
I want to see more Chase and especially more Cameron, I hope they'll stick with their promise of more Chase and Cameron. These two characters still have so much potential, they just need to explore them properly. And yes to his break-up theory, I'd like to see them break-up, sorry, but Chase and Cameron as a couple is just boring.
I particularly like this answer:
"I know a lot of people want more relationship stuff, but I'm not a fan of it. If it's pertinent to the show -- and we are essentially a procedural drama -- I don't mind it. But if it's just Chase and Cameron going bowling, who cares? As soon as you get away from that procedural element and start worrying about relationships between the characters too much, I think it gets soapy... for lack of a better term."
I agree on that 100%, and I think they are already at a dangerous edge. I hope the writers will stop this "Huddy MD" (and also "Foreteen MD") development and go back to the well balanced House MD we've loved since the very first episode.

The 100th ep isn't a big deal? What is David Shore smoking? Fox thinks its a big enough deal to send a special press kit out.
