Miley_240 Miley Cyrus has stirred up another photo controversy, but it's not for racy pictures this time.

A personal photo of the Hannah Montana star and her friends making slant-eye poses has surfaced on the Internet, arousing the ire of an Asian organization that claims the image "falls within a long and unfortunate history of people mocking and denigrating individuals of Asian descent."

Cyrus, 16, appears in the photo with six of her friends, one of whom is of Asian descent and was the only one not to pull his eyes sideways.

See the controversial Miley Cyrus photo yourself.

"The photograph of Miley Cyrus and other individuals slanting their eyes currently circulating the Internet is offensive to the Asian Pacific American community and sets a terrible example for her many young fans," says OCA executive director George Wu in a statement. "Not only has Miley Cyrus and the other individuals in the photograph encouraged and legitimized the taunting and mocking of people of Asian descent, she has also insulted her many Asian Pacific American fans."

As for the Asian friend included in the photo, Wu says that it "does not make it acceptable."

OCA has called for Cyrus to publicly apologize to her fans and the Asian Pacific American community for her "lapse in judgment."

Last summer, the Spanish Olympic basketball team was similarly called out for making the gesture in a series of team photos.

Is Miley Cyrus wrong for her actions or is it harmless fun? Should she apologize for the gesture?

Yes.

I don't think Miley meant any harm or was intentionally trying to make fun of Asians. She (and her friends) were just being silly. (She still is a child and will continue to make mistakes.. she is not perfect)! We have all done this in our lives (made fun of others) and how dare we ridicule her for being human.

No, she should not know better.. this is how we learn.. but maybe she should have thought before she acted. Most of us do not think before we do things.

Forgiveness is the key to your unhappiness.. we should all forgive and move on.. this is LIFE!

Miley Cyrus might not be a racist but thats not the point. The point is you don't call black people Macaca or N-word. There is a history to this. In the same way it is not acceptable to do chin-chong and slant-eyed gesture. Politicians can get away with saying they hate gooks (you know who), try the same thing and refer to a black person as a boy in national TV.

Those non-Asians "seeing nothing wrong" in this try making monkey noises when you see a black person on the street for some "harmless fun".

Get out of her "personal photos" and you won't have to worry about what you find. She was having fun with her friends, including an Asian one. Perhaps it was his idea. Who knows? It's her business and it should stay there.

i'm asian, and i dont think it's racist at all...there's even an asian guy in the picture...much ado abt nothing...people triviliaze things too much...urrggh !!

typical tpt as usual.. and if it was so personal why was it leaked online??

I DIDN'S THINK ANYTHING OF IT .I DO NOT THINK SHE IS A RACIST.

See, the Asian guy in the photo is opening up his eyes really wide. They were trying to be funny.

Was it stupid? Yeah.

Was it immature? Sure. (But they look to all be KIDS, so they're expected to be immature!)

Was it racist? Not in the least.

I personally think this photo is being taken out of context (as so often happens in our fast food, instant breakfast, microwaved, gotta have it now" world. Why is is automatically ***umed that everyone is mocking Asians? Does the young Asian man in this photo look in the least way upset? Has any complaint been filed OTHER than by this OCA? She (and those pictured) are KIDS, for crying out loud! This is what kids do. In all likelihood, they are not racist. There is no harm meant. Give them a break, will ya? Grow a thicker skin!

For us in north america mimicry is the highest form of flattery. Pushing your outside values is considered rude.
