Christian Bale's rant drops 36 F-bombs

Christian_240 Is Christian Bale taking his Dark Knight anger-management issues too far?

The Welsh actor's rant heard 'round the world dropped Monday (Feb. 2) courtesy of TMZ.com and has raised eyebrows and questions about Bale's stability. Even on the Today show, morning hosts Meredith Vieira and Matt Lauer listened in disbelief as The Dark Knight actor ripped into a film crew member on an audio tape.

Bale, who just turned 35, had become enraged on the set of Terminator: Salvation last summer when the director of photography Shane Hurlbut entered Bale's sight-line, tearing down lighting equipment during filming.

Some say that Bale was still feeling upset after having a fight with his mother and sister, who had earlier had him arrested on assault allegations. The charges were later dropped. According to the audio, it appears that Hurlbut had entered the set more than once during filming, setting Bale off. Whatever the reason, the actor was in fine cursing form and even threatened to walk off the set if the error was repeated.

"I will kick your ass," says Bale in the rant. "I want you off the f***ing set. No, don't just be sorry. Think for one f***ing second. What the f*** are you doing? Am I going to walk around and rip your f***ing lights down in the middle of the scene? So why the f*** are you walking right through?
You do that one more f***ing time and I'm not walking on this set if you're hired."

Take a listen to Christian Bale's rant for yourself. (Warning: repeated use of explicit language).

The nearly four-minute verbal attack was a shock to the film industry because the behavior was uncharacteristic of the star, according to Salvation assistant director Bruce Franklin, whom Bale also names in the rant. Audio of the tirade was sent to an insurance company that insured the film in case Bale bailed. Apparently somewhere along the way it got leaked to TMZ.

What do you think about Bale? Does he owe Hurlbut or the fans any sort of apology for his actions?

Maybe the DP should be more of a professional instead of being a distraction.

Also, maybe Christian Bale and Gordon Ramsay should get together for a head-to-head F-Off. I'd tune in.

Not much of an actor if he can't deal with a distraction. Not much of a human either.

Knowing that the goody-two-shoes on the Today show were upset with Bale cracks me up. I can just see them wringing their hands and whispering to each other. "Oh my, my. Our little ears will just melt.

GROW UP!!!!!

We all make mistakes and Mr. Bale needs to keep this in mind before going on one of his tirades. I agree with Ned--not much of a human being to treat another person in this fashion. The reaction from him doesn't fit the "crime".

What a sense of entitlement this guy has! Wow, I liked him before but not anymore. NO WAY will I see this movie knowing he treated someone this way with my money going towards his paycheck.

He owes this guy a public apology.

Get a life Team Bale! Everyone makes mistakes but Christian's reaction is so over the top he deseves to be sued for harrasement. I can tell you no one in my job would get away with talking to a co-worker like that. Don't forget they ARE co-workers!

Welcome to the Film Industry, folks. This is nothing new - just the first example to be so widely reported.

And, yes, it is gross. But this isn't an isolated incident, and I'm almost certain that the Today hosts probably have little tantrums behind the scenes, too.

Are people really naive enough to think that this is the FIRST time an actor has EVER gone off on someone? I'm not trying to justify it, but let's not kid ourselves into thinking this is just a one-time incident. I bet this kind of tirade happens once per movie, whether it be an actor or a director or any other person on staff.

Having said that, I think Bale needs some counselling. I know he's Welsh, but that's no excuse.

Bale is just an inhuman JERK and a woman-beater. Bill Murray acts just like him to his "co-workers" also. Many stars who think they are better than everyone else do. But we keep giving Jerks like this our money every time we go to their movies. There is such a thing as public blackballing. Stop giving these jerks your money!!! See how often they get hired.

That, my friends, is the text book example of a ****.
