Breaking: Lauren Conrad Calling It Quits on 'The Hills'

Laurenconrad It was just two sweet days ago that our pals at LATimes.com gifted us with the trailer for upcoming episodes of The Hills and the promise of more quality time with the reality show's tabloid-friendly stars... but now, shocking news: MTV's Hills era will soon come to its end as Lauren Conrad has had enough.

Yes, the series' breakout star -- who first rose to fame on its predecessor Laguna Beach -- is apparently afraid she'll lose her mind if she continues filming. Perhaps she'll transition to voice acting? LC, as she's affectionately (and sometimes not so affectionately) known, spills more details of her reality TV exit in the April issue of Seventeen magazine.

Though People.com is reporting that a forthcoming fifth season will be the show's last, we're hearing that this Spring's batch of season four bonus episodes will actually serve as The Hills' swan song.

Sad? Ecstatic?! Think Whitney's The City is a satisfactory replacement? Let's discuss...

I'm glad she rode her 15 minutes into 24 (30 with commercials). Good for her. I'm just glad that maybe soon she won't be popular enough that you ever have to report on her again.

goodnight and good luck

this is the generation of the talentless. so long gone is the era of triple-threatedness. sinatra must be tossing and turning in his grave.

About damn time! This was probably the most sickening show on television that made no sense at all.

The City is way better anyways b/c the lead isn't stuck on herself.

I would be more concerned about no more Hills if we didn't now have a "Daily Aftershow" on MTV Canada to bask in the amazingness that is Dan & Jessi.

Love it or hate it...The Hills will most definitely remain a part of television and pop culture history!!

oh boo hoo hoo, what will i do without LC and Speidi...NOT! :)

come on, each person writing here would trade places with LC in a second. She is now set for life. The Hills might be a act, but she played it well and can now do whatever she wants without stressing about the economy.

i love the hills. i think, less the cars, homes, and designer clothes, the story is pretty down-to-earth. their lives, like ours are all about the non-stories - the confrontation that never happens, the sometimes-on sometimes-off boyfriend that breaks our hearts, the tension from living with roommates....

lc in interviews always seems normal and i'm happy that she has come to her own conclusion that the show has run its course. i'm sure mtv wanted to throw more money at her to do another season, and how many times have we painfully watched a season with someone who didn't want to be there, but the network forces them or they sell out for the money? i have respect for lc for walking away on her own terms

and yes, the city is a perfect replacement

I am sad to see the show go. I loved Laguna Beach and The Hills well was what most girls go through growing up I believe that is why it has last so long and would continue to last if Lauren did not want it to end. I think she is a good person who just loves to help people and in the end sometimes gets hurt herself.

I believe Lauren will do great things with the rest of her life she is still young and does have a great group of friends who understand her and help her out.

Good luck Lauren and the rest of the cast..

The City is really good so maybe it is to take place for a while for The Hills..
