Breaking: CW Renews 'Supernatural,' 'Smallville,' 'One Tree Hill,' 'Gossip Girl' & More
No huge shock, but it seems The CW has granted early renewals to their six most popular series. The three-year-old network just confirmed that Supernatural, Smallville, One Tree Hill, Gossip Girl, 90210 and America's Next Top Model will all return for new seasons, with ANTM given the go-ahead for two additional cycles on top of 12th edition which debuts March 4th.
With pickups likely for both the Melrose Place and Gossip Girl spin offs, the CW's Fall 2009 schedule is starting to look pretty tight. If you're hoping for Privileged to return, you best watch tonight's season finale, because it'll need really solid numbers if it's going to survive.
So, thoughts? Are you in lust with this not-so-fledgling-anymore net? Surprised it's stuck around this long? Psyched to see Smallville, Supernatural and OTH secure?

While I gave up SUPERNATURAL only because I was watching too many shows, I'm happy it is returning. It is great to see a spooky genre show survive and this season seems like it was really getting good mythology wise, since it is renewed, I'll likely watch the season finale since I know it will come back next year (unlike KYLE XY which I am boycotting since ABC FAM doesn't want me to view that timeslot next year, I'll just stop now).
SMALLVILLE really should have been gone a long time ago - if the producers knew an end date perhaps they could work on moving the story closer to the known mythology (or at least their right to write version of it) instead of treading water for so long. I was excited about a Lana-free (mainly) season but that still wasn't enough to help bring me back after I watched a few episodes this year. It has done some evolving, but you'd think after this many seasons they could do a season long arc correctly (like BUFFY used to do).
I'm happy for the fans of these series the most, they are lucky they are not fans of Fox shows like DOLLHOUSE or SARAH CONNER, who are always worried the current episode is the last they will ever see. CW usually gives a show a chance (except for those Sunday shows this year but they were partnered programming right?) and get a full season.
Based on the list plus the 2 other pickups mentioned - that is the 8 hours between 8-10 on Mon-Thurs. So that would seem to indicate that both Privileged and the soon to be returing Reaper will be at best mid-season replacements for next year. Unless of course they save eg. One Tree Hill for a mid-season replacement like they did in the 07/08 season.
90210 and Gossip Girl are becoming my favorite shows well now I'm more into 90210 but any-who.. One Tree Hill can that show just end already !!! seriously what is left to say about it, it's hanging on Brooke Davis and Haley James Scott who's under used.
Well I am hoping Privileged comes back. For a guy, I have enjoyed this show. What can I say, I never missed an episode of the Gilmore Girls.
Enough Smallville, put Welling in the Superman suit and update the series to
"Metropolis".
It's time for Superboy to become Superman!
Screw all of this. Why didn't they keep Veronica Mars? I know, I know: I've got to move on, but I just can't!
Im so happy to see One Tree Hill, Smallville, and Supernatural returning. :)
Now hopefully Reaper comes back with good enough ratings for it to be picked up.
I really hope Privileged gets a second season ... and yes ... I'll definitely be watching tonight (sorry President Obama, I'll have to catch you later).
kellek
Your comments about shows on FOX is exactly why I don't even watch that network anymore. They cancel every show that is not a ratings block buster too quick. Mainly because they know they can always recover with American Idol. Without A.I. they would hold onto a lot of these shows a lot longer.
YES! I'M SO PUMPED OTH IS GETTING ANOTHER SEASON!!!!
This news made my day.
