Twenty, twenty, twenty four hours to go...until new 'Lost'
Nothing like a little Ramones to get us into an excited frenzy for the impending start of Lost, you know? Not that any of us really need any further excitement. Any more commercials, trailers, or mentions of the show might send us into screams not unlike those made by Jonas Brothers' fans after they've imbibed a four-pack of Red Bull.
We're trying something new this year here on the blog during showtime. In the past, the last entry posted before the airing of a new episode was the de facto place for you to comment during the show before my recap was posted over on It Happened One Night. This year, The Powers That Be asked me to host a live chat here on the site using some super funky and super easy-to-use software. So I'm giving it a test run with the three-hour Lost-a-Palooza that kicks off Season 5 of our favorite show.
How will the chat work? Easy. Just look below for what will be a greyed-out box. That's the chat window, located inside this entry. You don't have to visit another site, download any virus-laden software, or give away your bank accounts simply to register a nickname. It's all done inside the box below. Around 8 pm EST on Wednesday, I'll make the chat live, and will keep it as such throughout the final moments of the third hour. At that point, we'll rehash for a bit, most likely featuring a lot of OMGs, then I'll post my many, many thoughts over on It Happened Last Night.
Here's the aforementioned box.
Got it? Good. There will be speculation, commentary, polls, and Lord knows what else going on all night. I think it should be a fun way to share your excitement and instant reaction throughout the evening, or simply a fun place to stop by during commercial breaks. Worse comes to worse, the chat will stick around long after it's over, so you can read what went down while you were being too cool to hang with the rest of us.
Hope to see you there!
Ryan also posts every 108 minutes over at Boob Tube Dude, then peruses Zap2It's Guide to Lost Facebook group. He also encourages you to subscribe to the Zap2It's Guide to Lost Twitter feed. He asks you to check out the We Have to Go Back Gallery
and make sure you're fully caught up before Season 5 starts!

I'm so excited, I can hardly contain myself.
Ryan, I trust you've tested this program. I'm just saying.
I'll be here at 8pm sharp. I hope to see most of you here.
I have to deal with first graders tomorrow, so I might have to tape the show and watch it later. Depends on how tuckered the little brats make me. :)
Great idea with the live chat, but I don't think I can watch, type, and read at the same time. Definately be here after the episode though.
Not gonna lie, I don't want to risk being any tiny bit distracted from Lost greatness by chatting. But maybe I'll check in during the preshow. ;)
Spent the last week rewatching all 4 seasons and can't wait for 5.

FROM WIKI
Jeremy Bentham (IPA: ['benθəm] or ['bentəm]) (15 February 1748--6 June 1832) was an English jurist, philosopher, and legal and social reformer. He was a political radical, and a leading theorist in Anglo-American philosophy of law. He is best known for his advocacy of utilitarianism, for the concept of animal rights,[1][2] and his opposition to the idea of natural rights, with his oft-quoted statement that the idea of such rights is "nonsense upon stilts."[3] He also influenced the development of welfarism.[4]
He became known as one of the most influential of the utilitarians, through his own work and that of his students. These included his secretary and collaborator on the utilitarian school of philosophy, James Mill; James Mill's son John Stuart Mill; and several political leaders including Robert Owen, who later became a founder of socialism. He is also considered the godfather of University College London.
Bentham's position included arguments in favour of individual and economic freedom, the separation of church and state, freedom of expression, equal rights for women, the end of slavery, the abolition of physical punishment (including that of children), the right to divorce, free trade, usury,[5] and the decriminalization of ****sexual acts.[6][7] He also made two distinct attempts during his life to critique the death penalty.[8]
Could Jeremy Bentham have wrecked the Black Forest in the 1800's to free the slaves?
and the real John Locke:
John Locke (IPA: /lÉ’k/) (29 August 1632 -- 28 October 1704) was an English philosopher. Locke is considered the first of the British Empiricists, but is equally important to social contract theory. His ideas had enormous influence on the development of epistemology and political philosophy, and he is widely regarded as one of the most influential Enlightenment thinkers, cl***ical republicans, and contributors to liberal theory. His writings influenced Voltaire and Rousseau, many Scottish Enlightenment thinkers, as well as the American revolutionaries. This influence is reflected in the American Declaration of Independence.[1]
Locke's theory of mind is often cited as the origin for modern conceptions of identity and "the self", figuring prominently in the later works of philosophers such as David Hume, Jean-Jacques Rousseau and Immanuel Kant. Locke was the first philosopher to define the self through a continuity of "consciousness". He also postulated that the mind was a "blank slate" or "tabula rasa"; that is, contrary to Cartesian or Christian philosophy, Locke maintained that people are born without innate ideas.
Wiki says Locke influenced Rousseau and Bentham influenced Robert Owens is this the Robert that Alex's baby mama speaks of?
Of course there is already a Faraday so I predict that
1. Locke will also be known as either Isaac Newton or Roger Bacon!
2. Ben knew Faraday had a time machine and like that they are back on the Island on day 108 and Jin is saved!
(this is unlikely because promos show a map similar to the Swan station door they will use to locate the moved Island)
3. Charlette is a bastard daughter of Widmore who removed her from the island before the purge some 20 years ago and placed her in rich boarding schools.
4. Sawyer and juliette WILL do the nasty.
5. We will see the Temple which will explain the missing toe people.
You may disregard these but Ryan please tell me how with the Islands "healing" powers everyone always has infections and Sawyers eyesite has gotten worse, etc.?
Not to be snooty and miss out on the fun...
But if I run really fast, avoid tripping over my daughter's Barbie while unintentionally rollerskating on one of my son's Hot Wheels and also avoid **** Van Dyke-ing it over our ottoman, I might be on the chat.
Or plan B; sitting on my couch with my pooch in my lap with a gl*** of wine in my hand, making my best "O" face while basking in S5 premier goodiness. Hmmmmm, decisions decisions.
I'll be there from 8-9 and then will probably check during commercial breaks. Looking forward to it.
Live Blogging of a show?!!!
That must be one of the most ridiculous thing I have ever read about in my life!
What's the point?!
Are you going to blog chat AND twitter? Or just chat...?
I, like most, will want to focus on the show itself first, then catch up on sharing all the "wows!" with folks on the blog/FB tomorrow.
Love this blog, Dude!
I'll be chatting, Twitter'ing, and pushing the button every 108 minutes. I'll be a busy beaver. A lot of the Zap2It crew will be chiming in as well!
