'Psych's' Gus & Shawn Fight Over a Lady While Monk Meets His Baby Bro...

Tomorrow night, quirky dramas Psych and Monk return with all-new episodes, and because KTV correspondent Marisa Roffman is such a die hard fan of both series, she gladly previewed their mid season premieres, so we'd all know what to expect. Read on for her report...

Roday_hill Psych - "Six Feet Under the Sea"
Shawn and Gus, one of TV's best bromances, is back and maybe even more funny than before. This Friday, when a famous sea lion is found dead after being released into the wild, the guys will make it their mission to figure out why. Of course, they'll quickly realize the case may be tied to something much more dangerous than they anticipated. Our dynamic duo will get caught in an Out of Sight-like moment -- I'm sure you can guess which of them Shawn will say is the Clooney and which is the J. Lo -- and yes, arrested too. Fortunately for them, there's a pretty lady named April who will come to their aid on the case. Unfortunately for them, they'll feel the need to fight over her affection.

Maggielawson_2 And where is Juliet while all this is happening? Well, Shawn getting close to April will not stop Jules from becoming her BFF. And like any good BFF would, April will recognize the unspoken spark between J&S... So, will she walk away? Or get in the way? ...Which would you prefer to see?

What's ahead this season: Lassie's in big trouble, which means Shawn and Gus to the rescue! And you just know he's going to hate every second of their help... Cybill Shepherd will be returning as Shawn's mom, as will Rachael Leigh Cook as Shawn's high school crush, and Justine Bateman turns up later too. Plus, a serial killer sets his sights on Shawn...

Tonyshaloub Monk - "Mr. Monk's Other Brother"
As the episode title suggests, we're about to meet Monk's long-lost half-brother, Jack Jr. (Steve Zahn). However, the sibling reunion will not be pretty, to say the least. Not only will Jack Jr. break out of prison -- he'll escape through a sewer which will go over really well with Monk, as I'm sure you can imagine -- but he'll also be accused of killing someone post-escape. Eeek.

StevezahnMonk's relationship with Jack Jr. will definitely start off rocky -- that's what happens when you introduce yourself to your half-brother by breaking into his house -- but they'll eventually bond and Monk will agree to help clear the name of his little bro. And if you bond with J Jr., you'll be happy to hear that I'm quite sure we'll see him make a return appearance in Monk's life before the series ends its run next year.

P.S. Fans of the Monk/Natalie relationship should look forward to a nice little moment at the end of the episode.

What's ahead this season: Monk gets hired by his childhood bully, takes on a magician, and tries to prevent the demolition of the place where his was wife killed. Also, look for lots of guest stars to pop up, including Bradley Whitford, Gena Rowlands, Bob Costas and Julie Bowen.

Cool that Rachel Leigh Cook will be back on Psych. I thought she and Shawn had good chem.

WooP luv dule and roday!

Monk ends its run next year. Say it aint so! I think the dynamic between Psych and Monk will be hard to duplicate, but at least we know that Monk will finally solve the one murder that has perplexed him since we met him. Psych has great writing and the perfect actors. I mean it's hard to imagine that L***ie was the bad guy on Jerico. Psych is in the same vein with other great shows like: 30 Rock, Arrested, Sunny in Philly and Scrubs.

If "Monk" had an episode with all of his brothers and his father it would be one of the funniest ensembles ever put together - Tony Shaloub, Steve Zahn, John Turturro, and Dan Hedeya. Comic gold.

Tony Shaloub is a genius for stopping the show near its peak. It should preserve the Monk legacy.

Psych is one of the shows I try to watch the same night I dvr it.

I'm really looking forward to the returns of both these shows. And I think Steve Zahn is going to be pretty awesome as Jack Jr .. he can do odd/quirky etc so well ...

Although I'd much rather have another, say 5 years, of 'Monk' .. at least we know ahead of time that the end is coming. And, more importantly, the producers/writers/actors know their end-date .. and can plan next season (which starts this summer) accordingly so that it wraps up nicely (with Trudie's storyline resolved for Monk).

Fans of the Monk/Natalie relationship have already been told by the creator and writers that they aren't 'going there' with the pair. Don't do this to them.

Unfortunately, I gave up on Psych when the second season started and I saw no discernible growth of their characters. Same-o, same-o.

Monk, on the other hand, is progressively healing and connecting more each season with his "family" of Natalie & child, Chief, etc., while still being OCD, and it's a delight to watch his nuanced performance. He's never over the top, but little touches show he can relate more to others.

I love Psych...I miss Psych (terribly!!!)!!! Any word on whether it will ever be broadcast again in Canada, especially in the Toronto area, or on the web where non-Americans can still see it?!

Psych episodes are available on www.usanetwork.com. I'm not sure how long they wait to post them, but I don't think it's too long. Enjoy!
