I want your pressing 'Lost' Season 5 questions
Have you recovered yet from Wednesday's mindblowing Lost premiere night? I've found myself thinking about it constantly, trying to view it from different angles, and trying to make some sense of it all. Course, that's incredible difficult to do so early on in the season, but that doesn't mean we won't have fun trying!
Think about what we knew after the first two episodes of each season so far:
Season 1
That Island's whacky!
Season 2
See you in another life, WAAAAAAAAAAAALT!
Season 3
So, like, they're not gonna spend all season in the cages, right?
Season 4
I think Jack's mad at Locke or something. And who are all these people falling from the sky?
We had only a glimmer of what was to come, and yet, going back (as we did and such), it's clear that those first two episodes were laying the foundational work for the rest of the season. What was laid down in these first two episodes? A "dislodged" Island and the difficulty for Ms. Hawking and Ben to get the proper people on it before it leaves the station for good. An unfair summary, missing about 42 important factoids? You betcha, but I'm grasping at whatever simplistic view I can before I end up all Minkowski'ed.
I tried to cover the big topics in my recap, but I want to know your burning questions about Season 5. Here are a few of mine: Is Locke moving with the rest of the remaining survivors, or on his own path? Are the rules observed by Faraday/Chang the same ones as Widmore/Linus? What is Sun's ultimate endgame? Why is Locke dying the only way to convince the Oceanic 6 to return? Do the Degroots even exist, or are they themselves actors, the head of one ginormous long con?
In light of information about the Arrow, and those lovely military lads Juliet and Sawyer met, I'm going to take a look at the possible real aim of the Dharma Initiative. Something's rotten in the state of New Otherton, people. And I'm gonna smoke it out. Or Smokey it out, provided I can locate a hieroglyphic door somewhere in my apartment.
In the meantime, ask away, and "Letters from the Flame" will answer all your questions. We may even include a few in this weekend's podcast. No WAAAAAAAALT needed before them, unless, you know, you really wanna.

1) What makes Desmond miraculously and uniquely special? (Is it the fact that he turned the failsafe key, therefore giving him the ability to change events alone the destiny timeline...or that he just happens to be in the Island's past and so becomes the left-behinder's constant)
2) Who is the client? (My guess is Ben, due to the fact that he apparently had 2 men [Gabriel & Jeffrey referred to at the Butcher shop] on ***ignment)
3) Who is Faraday's mother (the safe bet is on Ms. Hawking, but who else is a possibility?)
4) Who is Charlotte's Mum? (she mentioned that she can no longer remember her mother's maiden name. Therefore, I figure this has to have some significance. Ms. Hawking? Making Faraday's affection that of a caring brother? Or perhaps Penny is her mother? Making her a future offspring of Des & Penny?)
5) Is Jones (the soldier who confronted Sawyer & Juliet) Widmore?
Well, I offered my answer on three of those in the recap, so check out my take on the client, Mama Faraday, and Jones there.
#1's a good one, though. I have a few thoughts on that.
Ryan McGee has Lost related questions?! God help us all!
After reading the recap, I have to say I don't think "Jones" is Widmore at all. And Sun seems pretty bad*** by now. By the way , I totally called Mrs. Hawking being the Druid Mathematician, and she is definitely Faraday's mother. Sawyer's quest for a shirt was awesome, just as the flaming and painful death of Neil "Frogurt".
Waaaaaaaalt! Couldn't resist.
How could Locke get shot by Ethan and kill that member of the Dharma Initiative if they can't change anything in the past?
Another qustion: Richard and the others don't seem to be sincronized in time with the Losties and the freighter people, but how can the island make a distinction between Cindy and the other abducted tailies and the losties and not make the same distinction between the losties and the freighter folks? Could the time travelling diference be caused by the mental status of each group?
And why is Faraday, and only him working in the construction of the orchid? I thought Sawyer would be the choice for the heavy lifting jobs...
Hey, Lost peeps! Long time lurker, first time poster. But the greatness we saw last night has compelled me to try and make a regular thing of it.
Believe me, I know how it is to not be able to stop thinking about all the awesome of those two hours. I think some of my friends and family are starting to think there's something wrong with me, as I periodically still burst out in excited squeals as I remember the look on Ben's face when Hurley threw a Hot Pocket at him, or pretty much every scene with Daniel Faraday. Although, I can't say they're wrong...
Anyway, here's some of my WAAAAAAAAAAAAAALLLTastic questions:
1. So since other than Desmond, no one can change the past, we have to ***ume that Ethan actually *did* remember meeting Locke when we saw him in Season 1. SO, what if this meeting, and Locke saying that Ben had appointed him the Others' leader, was what first clued them in to the fact that this John Locke guy might be "special"?
2. Do you believe that Widmore was really responsible for Nadia's death? Could it be, perhaps, that the reason that Sayid is no longer working for Ben was because he found out that Ben lied to him about his wife's "murder"? Maybe Ben was responsible, or, what I'm thinking, maybe it really was an accident.
3. When, in Faraday's chronological timeline, do you think that first scene with Chang took place? Before or after all the time jumping going on in the rest of the episode?
4. What kind of Hot Pocket do you think Hurley threw? My money's on meatball marinara.
5. Given these new players we've now seen in the relative past, any thoughts or predictions on what may have really happened to Rousseau's people? Before we find out sometime soon, 'cause you know we're so gonna (and it's gonna be awwwwesome).
Okay, I could sit here and think of some more rambling questions, but I think I might be better off going to bed. ;)
Great blog, Ryan, can't wait to read more!
6) The 70 hour time-frame (the event window calculated by the Druid Math) Ms. Hawking gave Ben to get the O6 back together: Is this when the Island will temporarily be at the same point in time as the O6 are in off-Island, allowing them to re-enter the Island before it time-skips again?
I'm a little confused. Was the island going back to Point A in the past and then to Point B in the future and back to Point A and then Point B and then Point A, etc...
Or was it just going to all these different times on the island randomly every single time? Cuz, honestly I thought it was the first idea until I realized: We've seen Dharma people in person, the future, and then Desmond in the hatch (which is at most three years before the plane crash). I'm so confused.
If the rules of time travel don't apply to Desmond, does that mean that he could change the future? What is the point of the rules as explained by Faraday if there's a character on the show that can change things anyaway?
I don't mean to sound skeptical. I thought that the time travel was handled relatively well last night, but I'm nervous as to how this is going to play out over the course of the season.
First time poster, long time lurker.
Remember when the Others shrink tells Juliet that she looks just like "her", what if it's because it actually IS Juliet, but in the past. Does that make sense? What if Ben met adult Juliet when he was a child? Thoughts?
Like I said on the live chat last night the Black cop was Abbadon but can't believe as I rewatched the episode today the other cop was
Mr. Chang!!!!!!
wow, they have 70 hours to return or there is going to be more blood on that islands beach than Normandy.
Definate Ben hired the lawyers ie Gabriel and Jeff
and def will get Rousseu back story with the "Militaries" being the ones who end up killing them except two of their members Rousseu herself and
bloop
Faraday!!!!
regardless of all the craziness, time travel, whos related to who, etc. to me the the entire show is a simple story about Jack and the decisions he makes in his life, balancing the good and the bad through TRUTH.
rewatch ep 2 from last night and you may agree.
