ABC unveils the secret of 'True Beauty'
ABC managed to keep details about its Tyra Banks-Ashton Kutcher reality series True Beauty secret for a good six months. The suspense was not exactly killing us, but now that the network has finally let loose with a full description of the show, all we can say is: Um, yeah, sure.
As described, True Beauty -- which premieres in January -- sounds something like a cross between Are You Hot?'s crass celebration of physical attributes and the supposed teaching moments of Beauty and the Geek, another series sprung from Kutcher's daring mind. Ten hotties -- six women and four men -- will live together in a fancy house and go through a series of contests to see who is "truly the most beautiful."
The rub is this: While the contestants think they're being evaluated only for their looks, the judges will also be looking for inner beauty -- treating people with respect, not being completely narcissistic and the like.
Contestants will only find out about the twist after they've been eliminated, when they're shown a video montage of their behavior during that week's challenge. Presumably they'll emerge chastened and vowing to be better people once they go back to civilian life.
The winner -- the person who's really hot but also, like, super-nice -- gets a cash prize and a spot in People's "100 Most Beautiful" issue. Whether that means he or she will actually be part of that pulchritudinous list or just somewhere in the issue is not entirely clear.
Actress and former MTV VJ Vanessa Minnillo will host the show and serve as one of the judges, along with supermodel Cheryl Tiegs and Nole Marin, Banks' former fellow America's Next Top Model cohort.
Seriously: What was with all the secrecy? Do you figure ABC was just trying to keep the show's format from being copied?
maybe they were worried it would somehow leak to the contestants . . . .

ken | Dec 12, 2008 1:01:36 AM | #I have had the privilege of knowing Billy (one of the contestants) for several years and let me tell you, he captures the essence of what this show can and I hope does represent - people who are not only easy on the eyes, but more importantly compassionate, genuine, friendly and honorable. Mark my words...you won't find Billy boosting about his attributes (it's not in his nature), unlike what has been illustrated from several of the other contestants. Can't wait till January 5th!

The one that is always talking, not sure what her name is? Will definitely be watching to see her!! Her eyes are amazing!! She is SMMOOKIN HOT!!
