'Flight of the Conchords' may ground itself after season two

Conchords_240Business time may not last much longer for Flight of the Conchords.

Jemaine Clement and Bret McKenzie, the New Zealand duo whose HBO comedy became a cult favorite last year, say the show's second season will likely be its last. The duo are still working on songs for season two and say they've had some struggles in putting the music and the narratives that build from them together.

"We've got a lot of half-songs. We've got an album's worth of beginnings of songs," Clement tells the British music magazine Q. McKenzie adds that the second season "seems to me like it would be a good end to the show."

Flight of the Conchords was not a huge hit for HBO last summer -- it hovered around the million-viewer mark for most of its run. It did, however, attract a devoted cult of fans and a good chunk of critical praise. It's also up for four Emmys, one each for writing and directing for a comedy series and two in the original music category for the songs "The Most Beautiful Girl (in the Room)" and "Inner City Pressure."

The show also helped raise Clement and McKenzie's profile as they toured and propelled their first full-length album to a top-five debut on the Billboard charts earlier this year.

There's no word yet on when the show's second season will premiere.

This is to be expected really. They used all of the songs from their act for the first season so I am sure they doubted a pick-up. I think it is unlikely that the second season will come close to the quality of the first, I just hope it doesn't completely suck.

I'd love to see a song from Mel/Doug this season too!

Like the UK, ending FLIGHT after two GREAT seasons is fine by me, even though the show IS one of my favorites of all time. I will be sad to know it's over.

Perhaps Bret and Jemaine could parlay their success into future movie musicals, ala SEX & THE CITY?

Most episodes in season 1 had three songs - there's no reason the new episodes need to have that many. One or two songs per episode, coupled with ten episodes per season instead of twelve, should be enough.

I would watch those guys read a phone book. Who needs songs? Don't leave us!

Expected... yes. But I cannot hide my disappointment of having only two seasons of this hilarious show. But hey, if the short-lived formula worked for The Office (UK) and Extras, then the second season for FotC will surely kick ***... and yes, I'd be perfectly content with that.

Really, the songs are the best part.

Wow i really liked this show but the ending of the first season will really **** up the second season. And the fact that they have to write new songs. I really hope that it is as funny as the first season.
