'Lost': No direction home

Picture it: Los Angeles, 2002, a television-obsessed dork (yes, me) visits Hollywood for the first time, and thanks to a well-connected friend -- whom you will find groping Judy Reyes in a photo below -- spends her inaugural day in LaLa Land on the set of the freshman series Scrubs. More

While the backstories seen to date on the show weren't exactly original, I still feel like the one presented in this episode felt the most derivative, the least unique, the least...well, Lost. The show deals in archetypes, to be sure, but quite often these archetypes are centered on particular personalities: the martyr, the acolyte, the romantic. Things of that nature. More

Up is down. Day is night. Dogs and cats, living together. And the Emmy Awards seem to have made some (mostly) defensible choices.

If I had to rank my favorite couples on the show, I'd have to put Sun and Jin high up on that list. I'd probably rank two people Lost newbies wouldn't know at the top, with Sun/Jin a close second. So it's been interesting at going back to the very first episode that focused on their relationship to see just how it all started. Let's see what Lost did with this couple at the beginning, shall we? More

The Internet connection down here in the Bahamas, where I'm still hanging with the cast and crew of Scrubs, is a bit shaky right now. But I'm not complaining. Chatting with creator and executive producer Bill Lawrence today, I learned that actors Aziz Ansari, Betsy Beutler and Eliza Coupe aren't going to be the only new kids on the Sacred Heart block this season.

We're only four episodes into the "We Have to Go Back" series; can't stop now! This episode of Lost features missing water, empty coffins, and important pow-wows. So let's get to it! More
