'October Road' Will Live To See Another Day
"October Road has been such a labor of love for everybody involved and whether it's the best show in the world or the worst show in the world, it's something everybody involved feels intimate with. One thing we won't do is let this journey, however long it lasts, end without resolution. ABC can cancel us, but they can't stop us from telling the story to the fans."
These are the words of October Road executive producer Josh Appelbaum, who was cool enough to take time out of his very busy day and chat with me on the fate of his beloved show. With ABC Upfronts on tap for next week, Appelbaum still hasn't officially heard whether or not O Road will return, but in the case that no news is bad news, he's prepared a contingency plan that the cast has already signed on for. "We're dying for [October Road] to come back, but we have an interesting, creative idea that would bring the audience resolution, even if the show gets cancelled. And it won't just be going on a website and saying 'X' is the father. It'll actually be something kind of cool that they will hopefully enjoy."
Appelbaum says ABC execs seemed excited about the ideas that he and producing partners Andre Nemec and Scott Rosenberg pitched for a possible season three. However, the creative has never been their problem with the show. The issue has always been October Road's struggle to pick up a mass audience. Still, the audience they do have has been passionately expressing their desire to bring the show back via various fan movements, like the 'Pay October Road Forward' campaign. "People have been sending [October Road] DVDs to soldiers in Iraq and donating them to local libraries," Appelbaum explained. "The idea is to just keep spreading the word about the show to hopefully get more people to write in to ABC. They've also been sending leaves to the network. There's thousands of them. It's crazy. The fans have been fantastic through this. If we get picked up at this point, it won't be because of the ratings this season, which weren't that great. It's going to be because of the fans."

Korbi - thank you so much for this news!!! I'm praying we see a season 3, but I'm so happy to hear we'll get a resolution even if ABC isn't smart enough to pick it up. (P.S. This is id4_girl, if you remember from your Quickie. Congrats on the new site - I'll definitely be reading! :o)
id4, hi!! damn, you are good! i JUST posted this story like 4 minutes ago and you already found it?? you're like an October Road p.i., huh? really glad to hear from you. thanks for reading :)
Korbi - This is such a wonderful article...I almost feel like THANK YOU just isn't enough...You have just made my day, my month, my year!!! We are trying so hard to convince ABC to keep October Road on the air...It is awesome to know that the writers and cast are on board to give us resolution no matter what...Let's hope that comes in the form of many more seasons for our beloved show!!! That would be the best thing ever...You are the greatest!!! Thank you so much for all you do... :)
I love October Road and it's so great to hear that regardless of what happens that us Roadies will get some resolution. I'm thinking that no news is good news at this point, since Men in Trees was cancelled last week. That being said, we better get a Season 3!
my pleasure, Pam! later skaters... ;)
Korbi,
Thank You so much for this news! I for one am so relieved! I'm still hoping and expecting for a Season Three of Octobter Road. However, if the worst does happen, I'm thrilled we will get a resolution to the so many unanswered questions. The last memory of Eddie and Janet can not be Eddie throwing her out of his hospital room! Thanks again and long live October Road!
Thank you so much - Maybe if they would change the time slot (put it in ugly betty slot) It would be the biggest hit of the season.
Glad to hear that we will get an ending
Thanks for the update!
Korbi- This is great news. If by chance we don't get picked up at least we will get a resolution as to what happens. I believe that no news is good news, I feel that we are going to get another season. I want to thank you for putting this article out. I can tell that you are a Roadie too. LONG LIVE OCTOBER ROAD!!!!!
