'America's Next Top Model' ejectee Bianca gets real
Despite learning a lot on America's Next Top Model, Bianca Golden was eliminated on Wednesday's show for not being enough of a "natural" when it came to posing for photos. She also earned a lot of the viewers' anger for her competitive ways and treatment of Heather.
How did you get on the show?
B: I've been a big fan of Top Model since Cycle 1. When I was younger I tried modeling, but I was told I was urban and I wasn't marketable ... I just needed a door to put my foot in. As soon as I turned 18, I tried out for the show. I went in, and the rest is what you see on TV.
Do you feel you were portrayed accurately on the show?
B: I said everything that you saw. I'm not going to deny that, but I felt that editing played a big part of what the audience saw. Everything I said [on the show] is what I said. I'm not upset by anything I've seen. I'm not the person you saw.
What's the real Bianca like?
B: I can't just be one person. At home I'm just a nice girl that you see always laughing and telling jokes. Really simple. I've always had a competitive side. Maybe it came out a bit extreme on the show. I'm an everyday normal girl. I'm loud, I think I'm funny. I like to laugh, I love a good joke. I do have my bad days, but I'm not a walking time bomb trying to bring people down.
Did you play up your bitchy side for the cameras?
B: At no time did I think, "This is good [for] TV." I got used to the cameras right after we moved into the house. Editing just played it up. When Jenah was homesick, she'd cry or Chantal would confide in Saleisha. I missed my family and I just got angry and took it out on everyone around me.
What do you think about the reaction to you on the blogs out there?
B: I'm a blog junkie. I'm addicted to all blogs. I've been on every blog. There are a lot of negative comments, but I can't get mad at them. I have to just take them in. I was a fan and a viewer [of the show] and I understand they have their favorites and the ones they don't like. I'm not a bitch and I'm not perfect. I'm human. [Also,] I'm a reality TV junkie. I love I Love New York, The Real World. I'm into every type of reality show there is. I'm just a junkie.
Which of the girls were you closest with in the house?
B: Kimberly and Mila, and it sucked that they got kicked off first. Later, I got really close with Jenah, and I still talk to her.
Did you ever clear the air with Heather and Lisa?
B: I spoke to Heather when I got home. She loves me. I apologized for anything that came out with the editing. That's not the way it comes out [in reality]. She says she's grateful for the tough love I gave her and that she was tired of people treating her like a child. I really care for her and want her to do well. Lisa, I spoke to her. I'll be home in a few days, and we'll hang out.
Who do you think was your biggest competition?
B: I felt at the beginning that it was Ebony because when you first see her she's gorgeous. She's 6'1", gorgeous complexion. She has that Naomi Campbell flair. After she was gone, I thought it was Jenah and Saleisha. Saleisha has that charming personality and Jenah's portfolio is just amazing.
What's the best advice you received on the show?
B: It was from Heather. She told me that winning isn't everything. It's about you growing and the people you meet along the road. It was like she was peering into me. She said, "I know, Bianca, that you're not a bad person. We all have our dreams. This isn't everything. You'll still have a life after this."
Do you have any regrets or wish you could do something differently?
B: The one thing that stands out to me was running into the glass door because it was so painful. And the photo shoot afterwards, I had a panic attack to that. Nothing else, really.
Did you have a favorite photo shoot?
B: It was the gargoyle photo shoot. Not only were the clothes amazing, but it was when I grasped the concept of what they wanted to me to do and started my way to the top.
How do you feel about your haircut now? Do you think it helped your performance?
B: I love the haircut now. At first it was a huge shock. I watched the show from Cycle 1 and said, "[If they cut my hair] I'm not going to cry." When they first what they wanted to be my makeover, it was with long golden hair in the picture, and then I ended up with no hair, so that's what made me cry. I felt I looked like a boy. I didn't have the same confidence that I had when I came in with the big red hair. It grew on me. I'm going to keep it. I hope I get it brushed because it looked bad on TV. I definitely think it helped me model. If I had gotten the blonde hair, it would have been like a video girl. This is more versatile, high fashion.
What did you think about the panel's criticism? What about Tyra's farewell advice.
B: I'm into people expressing themselves and being flat out blunt. I appreciate the judges telling me this might not work or this works. I don't like things to be sugar coated. At first I didn't understand [Tyra]. I thought it was a slap in the face when she said that. But I realized what she meant when I thought about it. It's the best advice she could have given me: to practice and build my book up.
What was it like to have Tyra as your photographer? Did you learn a trick from her?
B: It was amazing. Tyra always has been one of the people I look up to. For her to be my photographer -- I learned from her because she's also a model and knows both sides. [The trick was] to let go, and I don't know if I totally got that yet. I didn't want to leap or jump. She told me to "Do what your body wants and stop thinking so much."
What was your biggest challenge in the shoots?
B: To get my face to express emotion because anger came easy to me. There were certain things I saw Jenah do that I couldn't.
Did you think it was fair that you got eliminated when you did?
B: I think it was my time to go. Honestly, the girls left had stronger portfolios and were ready emotionally. Me winning wouldn't have been good at that time because I had the competitive spirit. If I would have won, I wouldn't have been very nice.
Do you plan on pursuing modeling? What else are you interested in? Going to college?
B: I plan on continuing modeling and going to all agencies all around New York City until I get hired. I'd also love to be a fashion writer. Fashion will be in my life somehow some way. Also, I write, I used to step. Dance team. I'm involved with everything. At school, physical therapy was my major, but I might need to change that now. I'm in my second year of college. I plan on finishing my education as a fall back. I come from a strict background. Then I'll take a semester off and get my career together. I've loved fashion since I was 12.
Who do you want to win the show?
B: I want all the girls to win. They all bring something different. But as far as picking a friend and because of her strong portfolio, I would have to say Jenah. And I'm close to her. I wish them all well.
Anything you want to say to your fans?
B: I want to tell them: Thank you so much for supporting me and believing in me even though I seemed bitchy on TV.All of the girls, we really have dreams, so thanks for supporting us and watching the show.
What do you think of Bianca now? Did she deserve to go earlier?
bianca is a toad she didn't belong there in the first place, and to make it farther than heather is a joke. At first I thought they were letting men in drag compete when i saw bianca she has suich a harsh sharp face

Then in response to the question, "Do you think it was fair you got eliminated?"
She states: 'I had a competitive spirit."
This reveals the real truth to the shallow depths of her shallow soul. The remarks she made on the show were nothing compared to the looks she gave to the girls that won a challenge...pure envy and simple jealousy. And she used her words like a flaying knife. There's no compassion, there isn't even one ounce of humanity towards anyone, not even herself.
You treat people with the same contempt that you have for yourself. There is NOTHING beautiful about you. Come out of yourself and see the beauty in others, and not covet what others have, and maybe, just maybe you might get in touch with your own humanity. I was disgusted with your behavior on national tv, you should be ashamed of yourself!
i think bianca deserved to stay she had a different personality because in the industry you have a say on your future you do not let another person boss you around and bianca would have stood up for herself n to the other wo said she looks amess they should look at them selfs because we are all the same

She also was insecure because she knew she wasn't as good as the others yet. However, she represents black women in their true beauty. Without hair weave or dumb stuff to emulate what's not natural. That's unusual to some because they consider that blacks should strive to look like them because they represent beauty. NOT!!! She lights up the room with her smile and she'll do fine. I'll miss seeing her pretty face on the show!

Calling Bianca a monkey is racist, and I don't think she is trying to be a sweetheart. She is who she is. Take it or leave it. No one is perfect not even any of you. Bianca has grown and I know ANTM with its editing.

Before she started being a bitch to her though, I had nothing against her. I think she's pretty and a decent model just...her competetive attitude really got under my skin.

Brina | Dec 9, 2007 8:03:28 AM | #i dont think it was fair to say that heather did not even deserve to be in the show, because with or without viewers, she was modelesque and photogenic, even with just half a tank of gas, she still delivered great pictures. bianca had her days and most of the time, she was stiff. of course heather would be awkward, its because of her Aspergers, and it was to be expected, but nevertheless, her portfolio was one of the best. she should have been in the top 2 with jenah, as these two were the most exceptional girls in this Cycle.

I think it's interesting that people are dogging Bianca for being a 'bitch', and are themselves namecalling and being ugly toward Bianca. Being ugly isn't any prettier on you than it was on Bianca.

I sincerely believe in Karma, and it showed up on her doorstep the next week. After all of her taunting and derogatory comments about Heather, plus her lies and scheming (i.e., telling Jenah to go across the street in the shopping mall), I am surprised any of the girls remain friends with her. And I will never buy a magazine that she's in. I rather spend my money on positive role model for women and women of color.

Her eyes just light up. I'd smile alot more for future portfolio pics if I were her. Gorgeous!
I love Bianca!!! Even though she came off harsh and mean, at least she was real (unlike Chantal - hate her). Everything she said about Heather was true. And she may not have been nice about it and a little too competitive but I still loved her on the show and supported her until the end. I hope she makes it very far and becomes really successful in the modeling industry:)

Yes she had her moments, but you know, if everybody was nice ont the show no one would want to watch the show. This is tv people. Ratings. The need that drama on shows. And why no one talked about Saleisha taunting Heather twice (shower scene,and when she would not give up her big bed)Bianca was my favorite, and she will get booked no matter if the haters don't like her
