'Dancing' results: That's just about right
Though a great deal of people watch Dancing with the Stars, it doesn't quite have the zeitgeist-grabbing power of that other TV talent show on the air right now. Consequently there hasn't been a whole lot of controversy surrounding the show this spring as a couple of marginally skilled competitors have survived round after round.
Had that happened this week, though, there might have been some grist for the conspiracy-minded folk out there. But just as things have broken on American Idol, you the viewers (with an assist from the judges in this case) have moved what clearly are the four best dancers this season through to the semifinals.
Which means, as you've seen or probably guessed by now, that Billy Ray Cyrus is no more for the dance floor. Game and gracious though he was, the dude was pretty obviously out of his depth this week. The judges put him a full nine points behind the next-closest competitor (Ian Ziering) after Monday's performances, and the 90210 contingent obviously cancelled out the Hannah Montana vote among the public.
Still, there was the briefest of moments, after the producers revealed that Joey Fatone (second on the judges' cards Monday) was also in the bottom two that I thought, No, really? That couldn't happen, could it? If Ziering overcame a sizable deficit among the judges to beat out Fatone this week, could Cyrus pull off an even bigger comeback? And how much talk about vote-fixing would we have to endure, given that Cyrus stars in another Disney show?
Happily for all of us, that didn't turn out to be the case. A 17-point deficit in judging is probably just about impossible to make up if anyone at all voted for Fatone, which presumably people did. And so the four best dancers -- Apolo Ohno and Laila Ali in addition to Fatone and Ziering -- have moved on to the semifinals, and that's pretty much how it should be.
And you really have to like Cyrus' philosophical take on his pending elimination: "I'm just happy to be here and getting ready to go do the Jimmy Kimmel show." Hope Jimmy has a nice gift bag for you, Billy Ray.

At last!, the bear is out.
Bruno should have been fired for calling Billy Ray's performances "crap". To call any contestant "crap" is uncalled for. They didn't even say that to the far worse Master P in an earlier season. Not once did the judges give Billy Ray any constructive criticism to work with. It was insults from day one.
billy ray & karina are great i thought they should not have been voted off!!!!!!!!!! the judges are mean they should get lives!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Billy Ray and Karina were good. Karina did a good job in trying to teach Billy Ray all the steps. She was a good sport and even though they did get booted off, they did last a pretty long time. And in the end it was going to end. Like it or not, the end was near. As far as what Bruno commented on Monday night, I thought that was just given in poor taste. It shouldn't have been said. Oh well, life goes on and so does the show.
Karina was great... Billy Ray, despite me growing a fondness for the man, was CRAP! From day 1. Far worse than Paulina, Heather, Ratzenberger, even Shana! BRC was given constructive criticism by all of the judges at one point or another, and it was time for him to go home - He had NO footwork - EVER! Like his personality, but dude can't dance for crap!
I think they need to look for three new judges for next season. These judges forget that the stars are not professional dancers and have gotten way to critical.
It's amazing how hard Billy Ray tried to learn to dance and how far he got. It was obvious from the beginning he has no talent to dance at all, but he tried. To call him "crap" is very ruth and unprofessional. I like to see Bruno how he would play and sing Billy Ray's music on the stage.
Billy Ray only had ONE good song so I wouldn't call that singing. As for Bruno being rude, how about BRC. He left his partner standing on the floor with her hand out and he turned to shake hands with Ali. Talk about rude!! No southern gentleman there!!
Oh please. Let's call crap for what it is Crap. Yes indeed Master P was far worse and they may have never called his dancing crap, but more insulting they gave him a combined score of what 6 maybe 7. They were being nice to Billy Ray in the first place he should have been gone week one, with the wig mishap and clod hopping around. Well okay if not week one, a heck of alot earlier than now.
