Guam and Gone on 'Amazing Race: All-Stars'
After two straight weeks of incredibly tense episodes slightly unraveled by anti-climactic non-elimination legs, one team finally got the boot on Sunday (April 29) night's Amazing Race: All-Stars.
Whew.
[Of course there are spoilers coming here, but you knew that.]
Oswald and Danny were eliminated because they finished last for the week. They were eliminated because they were already Marked for Elimination. But really they were eliminated because they should have been eliminated last week. Danny and Oswald have been my second or third favorite team through most of the season, but they lost me last week with Oswald's fatalistic karmic whining.
While Sunday's episode contained a good amount of humor, there was almost no actual drama. Danny and Oswald were behind from the beginning, spent a very brief period in third and then faded to the back of the pack again. Meanwhile, Dustin and Kandice were in first from the start, completed each task with the lead and reached the mat on top as well. Eric and Danielle replaced Charla and Mirna in second, but it was mostly static.
That meant that the editors were forced to create suspense where probably none existed. Will Danny and Oswald be able to catch up at the Tokyo airport? Oh no! They won't! Oh wait. Yes they will. Will Charla and Mirna get lost going to the pit stop and let Danny and Oswald catch up? Oh yes! They will! Oh wait. No they won't.
Boy, though, the episode was sure patriotic. On Guam, the teams got to wash an Air Force bomber or take part in a heroic food drop (Charla and Mirna were the only team to take that Detour option, which required no work, but earned them minutes of inspirational music). Then, having fully celebrated the Air Force, the teams went off to a Naval base and got to take part in an Search and Rescue mission that proved the dangers of not knowing how to use a GPS navigator. It initially seemed obnoxious when Mirna condescended to explain the GPS tracker to Charla ("Use the GPS. It tells you which way to go."), telling her not to touch the screen or push the buttons, but who knows how well they'd have done if Charla had actually listened?
Since the finale is next week, there won't be very much time to miss Danny and Oswald, but they contributed good-natured one-liners throughout the season ("Oh my God. The Teletubbies go to war." was tonight's best quip) and played a solid game. Danny's closing comment about remaining convinced that Oswald would be pushing him around the gay old age home he's going to open was priceless.
Other thoughts on this week's episode:
Actually, this is more about the scenes from next week's episode, but I'm not sure my heart can deal with Dustin and Kandice fighting. Even if they've been catty to other teams, they've been nothing but devoted to each other. On the other hand, why does it not surprise me that Kandice would be the one saying mean things? Poor Dustin. She was so perfect this week on the GPS challenge. No hesitation and endless enthusiasm. I hope that the fight happens early next episode, because I'm rooting hard for the Beauty Queens and if they stop being likeable, I may just turn off the TV, because I'm not rooting for either of the other teams.
Who are you rooting for next week? And who most deserves to win?

I so want the BQ's to win. I had a friend call me after Mirna's accent conversation in the cab because this friend KNOWS how I feel about Mirna and her fake accents!! And "teletubbies go to war" had me call my friend back with that line!! And no, I do not want to see a fight between the BQ's either. I'm rooting for them, partly because they have been so nice!! I guess we'll see next week!!
Beauty Queens all the way.
Charla is really unintelligent, it seems. Her thought processes have always seemed somewhat sluggish, but this week she was a disaster. Mirna is a condescending hypocrite, and I'm SO tired of her accent. If those two win, I'm going to puke.
I guess I won't have a cow if Eric and Danielle win. They've whined throughout the season, but they have had some serious bad luck. Danielle probably rivals Charla in the low IQ contest, but she seems to have some pluck. I don't see those two riding off into the sunset together though.
I hope Kandice was just momentarily stressing out, and like they usually do in the teasers, the producers are making it seem like the falling out is more than it is. I also hope it isn't an indicator that those two encounter a serious setback (why else would they be arguing?) and lose their lead.
Did I mention that if Charla and Mirna win I'm going to puke. I will. I swear. Danny and Oswald's comment that they'd like C&M to win just showed how much we benefit from seeing the teams when they're alone. I wonder if they feel the same way now that they've watched the show. I wish The Amazing Race has Survivor-style reunion shows.
The BQ's are gay.
Now I want them to win & then watch their girl-girl video.
Perhaps the most ridiculous and arogant Mirna line ever: "Could you please land the plane faster? We are in a hurry!"
Oh, yeah, telling the pilot to land faster was the most ridiculous thing. How stupid can you be to pick the Road Block where you have so little control over how long it takes. They do very little stategic thinking. When you are on the final elimination you can't pick tasks based on your desire to be "humanitarian" as Charla put it. That's great, but they chose the wrong task and that alone almost cost them the final 3.
I can't understand either why Charla was so clueless about the GPS after being told 4 or 5 times not to touch the screen/buttons. Just hold it and follow the purple line! And why did she get a Navy officer helping her fix it all along the way, when Danielle wandered around for a couple hours before one showed up and told her she had bumped the buttons on the side? Not really fair.
But call me crazy, I like Eric & Dani and wouldn't mind at all if they won. They really were underdogs and have come a long ways considering the bad luck and they've had and TWO Yields.
But I like the BQ's too, so basically anyone but Mirna and Schmirna, please!
Regardless of what they said, I don't think Charla and Mirna chose the 'humanitarian' task for that reason. I think it just sounded physically easier to them. They are so disingenuous I don't believe a word that comes out of their mouths. Especially Mirna. What a troll!
The non-eliminations (4) have really taken the momentum out of the race. They should have just added 4 more teams.
I have laughed my *** off all day thinking about Mirna & the Cab driver... airrrr-pourt??? How do you say it???
AIRPORT-STUPID!!!
God, that is the stupidest thing I've heard... She's worse than Bolo...anyone remember his famous, Innteer-net Caaafeee????
I'm cheering for the BQ's...never thought I would say that but I am. If Charla could win alone, I would be okay with that too...
No reason to watch anymore as far as I'm concerned. The only thing to be glad about in this race is that Romber won't win. Now that it's down to 3 completely obnoxious teams - count me out.
well looks like we all agree that charla and marna shouldnt win seriously i will never see the amazing race if that happens i really hate them and i hate them more when they try to sound nice " we chose this task cause we like to help people" wat was that all about.
anyway ill just drop that at that as well ....okay now im going to go to my happy place which brings my to the beauty Queens and yes i too am rooting for them and am relly hoping that the fall out that happens b/w them is a short one and is early on in the show!!
also i wont completely loose if Eric & Dani win guess the 2 yields has softened my heart!!
anywho go BQs!!!
