This is our dirt, this is our mud!

Jesseplemons_fridaynights_nbcnet_24I've pretty well exhausted my well of adjectives to describe how much I love Friday Night Lights, so I'll just open the floor to you to discuss last night's fantastic "Mud Bowl" episode, one of the show's two or three best episodes this season. Some possible topics:

  • Landry (the fabulous Jesse Plemons) holding a copy of Our Bodies, Ourselves when he approaches Tyra in the library.
  • Coach and Mrs. Coach at the new field: "The cows are more supportive than you are," followed by Coach saying he's going "to get some blankets." Hey now.
  • Street coaching up Saracen -- "They're gonna be in your chili all night."
  • The deft handling of Waverly's bipolar disorder. When this storyline first surfaced a few episodes back I was worried it would just be one crisis too many for Smash, but the writers have done a fine job of not making it too soapy. Plus, that scene with Waverly and Lyla shooting rocked.
  • Speaking of Lyla, her blowup with Street might have been one of Minka Kelly's best moments all season. Street needed a little slap upside the head.
  • Every exchange between Coach Taylor and the other coach. I'm planning to work the phrase "Butch up, Sally" into conversation as often as possible from this day forward.
  • And, of course, Tyra. As I first watched that scene, I wondered if maybe she'd get so frustrated with Landry that she'd leave with the other guy and break Landry's heart. What happened, of course, was much worse, although I think it was a smart dramatic choice to have Tyra fight off her attacker by herself (I was practically yelling "Grab the cigarette lighter!" at the TV), and I loved that the usually verbose Landry sensed there was nothing he could really say to her, so he just offered the support of his presence.

OK, your turn. How good was that episode?

Very very good. As you said, one of the two or three best of the season...up there with Eyes Wide Open and I Think We Should Have Sex. To me, last night's episode was a thrilling payoff for the careful, patient season-long development of character, context and continuity that preceded it.

one of the best shows on tv right now, and a great episode even by the standard it has set so far. also, has there been any confirmation on its status for next season?

The only show in the week that I actually look forward to. Over the season I have grown to LOVE the characters. If this show is not given a chance by NBC, I will feel that I have lost my good friends forever -- and probably boycott NBC for a cycle until I get over my anger with their limited, bottom-line thinking.

Last report i read said nbc wont announce F.N.L. renewal till May. I love this show and i think there missing the female audience because they think its a football show and its not. Hell last night was the first actual football scenes in two weeks. Its and emotional drama about REAL LIFE PEOPLE AND SITUATIONS and in my opinion the best drama on tv. I felt the same way when FOX cancelled "Arrested Development" a great show that half of the country didnt get or watch. Please encourage your friends to watch the show. And oh yea AMERICAN IDOL SUCKS! vote for the Hindu kid

Hachi Machi,

To quote Simon, this was not one of their better episodes........

It was their best episode.

Any show that could generate the feeling I had in my gut watching the back-and-forth between the football game and Tyra, is in a different stratasphere than most other shows.

What I lvoe about FNL is exactly what I don't like about 24. While I can only think of 1 or 2 characters in 24 that I actually root for, I can not think of 1 character on FNL that I don't root for. Even Buddy is an endearing character. The acting performance last night by Smash was awesome and seeing Street coaching Saracen was awesome.

I see a lot of posts expressing desire for NBC to re-up the show, but I don't sence they are places that NBC is looking.

Any ideas who or where to express our desire to keep the show. I think everyone who likes it should watch the show from the NBC web site, as I would guess that is something they can measure.

This is the only show on TV that can actually get a visceral reaction from me when I'm watching it. I literally cheer, yell, and squirm along with FNL. I can't think of another show (with the possible exception of HBO's The Wire) that has made me care about such a large cast of characters, and I've never seen a show that could handle such difficult topics (attempted rape, race relations, paralysis, etc.) with such a deft touch.

I'm running out of ways to say this: PLEASE WATCH THIS SHOW!

Ratings are out. Although no as good as earlier in the year, ratings improved from a 3.8/6 last week to a 3.9/7.

First time in months ratings for FNL went up.

Hopefully it's a trend

I may be in my own world, but I would love to see FNL and What About Brian move to another network, get some media attentions, promotions, etc. and have some well deserved ratings success. I love both shows and it seems they are both on the verge of cancellation, how about FOX picking them? JMHO.

Positively one of the best shows of the season and certainly one of the best on TV. Would be wonderful to see a good show not get cancelled for a change. I am 64 year old great gramma who hates football. Love the show. Go figure! Come on Gramma's start watching.

I was just about to rant and rave that there wasnt a blog for friday night lights so i could discuss this weeks episode. IT IS without a doubt or question in my mind the best season of any television show ever. OH MAN watching last nights episode i literally had a sense of pride and joy and something turning in my gut during the whole football game. OMG

I think i am going to start a new website- SAVEFNL.com. anyone know how i can start that. im sorry, but this show has captivated me, and im only 18 !
