'Dancing' results: Who's gonna drive you home?

Is this, then, what we have to look forward to when American Idol expands its results show to an hour in a couple of weeks? A bloated, heavily padded confection like the Dancing with the Stars results?

I kind of like the Dancing performance shows, a little bit in spite of myself. You can sort of sit back and just surrender to the unabashed kitschiness of the whole thing -- the hotel-bar musical arrangements, the yards and yards of sequins, Bruno.

Paulinaporizkova_alecmazo_dancingwiBut the results shows, they're a chore. Even with a musical performance (Dionne Warwick), a dance by all the pros, Chuck Woolery and various other audience members weighing in on the competition and, you know, the actual results, there was still a huge amount of air in Tuesday's hour (to say nothing of the 60-minute recap show that preceded it).

And, oh yeah, about those results: Despite doing a very serviceable mambo Monday night, Paulina Porizkova, youngest ever SI swimsuit issue cover girl and wife or Cars singer Ric Ocasek, was the first one sent home. Viewers also put former Miss USA Shandi Finnessey in the bottom two.

They weren't, to my untrained eye, the two worst dancers in this year's competition (though no one this time around seems egregiously bad). They were, however, unmemorable, which as we see every year over on AI, is often a worse sin.

Porizkova, though, seemed to have a nice sense of humor about herself, and yeah, she looks pretty darn good at 41. So I'd rather she stuck around another week or two. But now if someone asks you what she has in common with Trista Sutter, Kenny Mayne and Tucker Carlson, you'll have your answer at the ready.

Sorry to see Paulina go? And could you make it through that whole hour without nodding off?

I'm disapointed that Paulina got sent home since she was my reason for watching.

However, the real reason for this post is talking about ABC.

I know that they were correct from a practical standpoint to push the start of their results show until AI ended; however, that says to me that they have no confidence in their show. If ABC doesn't have confidence in their show, why should I, the viewer, care about it?

I hope House wins in the ratings tomorrow for the above reason - i.e. I'm calling out ABC and saying they got no onions in their sack.

I was very disappointed to see Paulina Porizkova get botted from the show. She had a nice sense of humor (similar to that of George Hamilton two seasons ago). She danced well, looked great and thought she'd stick around for a few more weeks.

Clyde Drexler, Billy Ray Cyrus, John Ratzenberger and Leeza Gibbons deserved to have been booted instead. None of them can dance a damn.

I have been a big fan of DWTS from the beginning, but I am getting tired of the worst dancers sticking around longer than they should (Master P, Jerry Springer, Billy Ray Cyrus).

I was disappointed to see that Paulina was the first one eliminated, since she was far from being the worst. She handled the elimination in a very cl***y manner, and she was the most beautiful woman on the cast (in my opinion).

Much like American Idol, DWTS is more of a POPULARITY contest, rather than a talent contest. How else would you explain Sanjaya surviving 2 elimination rounds so far? I wish that on both shows, the audience could vote for the one contestant who they think should be eliminated, not who should stay. Then maybe the viewers could come up with an easier consensus, instead of having millions of votes spread out for the 11 or 12 different contestants.

Pauline was eliminated, not because she was the worst, but because she doesn't have a "niche" audience, like country fans or sports fans, and can't play on the sympathy vote, like Heather Mills. Billy Ray Cyrus deserved the boot, but his niche will probably keep him in the competition several more week.

I was relieved that the results didn't directly compete with AI because I really wanted to watch both! But alas, I really did fall asleep half-way through. :-(

My two picks for those who should have gone home this week were Shanti and Paulina.

Neither of them deanced well and each looked stiff and uncomfortable on the dance floor. I was not surprised then to see them both in the bottom two. Paulina is a beautiful woman and I wouldn't have minded looking at her for another week or so, but I think it was entirely fair for her to be sent home following her rigid performance.

I have been a fan of DWTS since the beginning and very seldom do I agree with the outcome, but I am glad to see Paulina go and I hope Shanti, Billy Ray and Clyde go next. I think they have the worse dancers overall this season than they have ever had. No one really stands out which makes it not as entertaining as usual but I still love the dancing, the music and the clothes.

I'm disappointed this year as I was to a degree last year as well.

I'm only watching iy now because of the absolutely spectacular pro dancers.

The mambos last nite couldn't ever come close to Stacy Keibler's 2 years ago

Can't she be brought back somehow

As a ballroom dancer, I can honestly say that John Ratzenberger is not a bad dancer (he did better in his quick step because he has a very natural heel lead). That said, neither is Paulina. I actually saw a lot of potential in her (much more that Shandi). She was better than Leeza, too (sorry, but it's true!) Clyde is the worst, then Billy Ray, then Shandi, then Leeza. But Clyde, Billy Ray and Leeza will stick around because they have niche audiences. I worry for the best dancers - Laila and Apolo - how many boxing and speed skating fans watch the show. And Laila is a standout - has great footwork, moves her body well, and styles wonderfully. Go Laila!!!

Its all about Laila and Maks!! There mambo was beautiful, a joy to watch, and HOT!

I disagree that there aren't any knockouts...I think Laila, Joey and Apolo will give plenty of great performances as the season progresses...heck, even Heather Mills looks like she is going to do well.

The lower ones will systematically be kicked off...except Billy Ray...since the country fans will whole heartedly keep his achy breaky heart alive.

who cares about paulina going-i'm gonna miss alec. i developed a huge crush on him when he danced w/ kelly monaco in season 1
