'Veronica Mars': You think you know ...
Oh wow. I can't believe that Piz totally did Dean O'Dell in. Who would have thought that the lovesick sidekick would seethe with such jealousy, scheming at night during his college radio show to impress Veronica with his criminal masterminded prowess?
Okay, obviously poor Piz wasn't revealed as the Dean's killer on Tuesday (Feb. 27) night's show. But just in case someone was foolishly reading this without having seen the pivotal episode, it's still not too late to avert your eyes. Because the killer was ...
(drumroll, please)
... Tim, the shifty TA.
Okay, while the episode tried the old bait and switch, by a show of hands, how many people were not surprised? I mean, it's not just because he's sporting such bad facial hair and a wig a la Color of Night (a Bruce Willis classic), but it certainly didn't have the shock value of last season's school bus killer. At least the show did try to lull us into a false sense of security by framing Mindy and Landry as partners in crime.
Instead of rehashing every little step that leads Veronica to cracking the Case of the Discarded Dean, why don't we just relive the highlights?
Anything to do with strippers: from Veronica telling her dad about Corn Nuts to the whole "Down-on-her-luck Catholic schoolgirl smuggling cantaloupes in her shirt" thing. As a cool and smart chick, Veronica can get away with saying anything.
- Keith (that's Sheriff Mars to you) cutting through all the trivial BS that Tim and Veronica bring and discovering that the Papa of Papa's Cabin is none other the Hemingway.
- When Wallace tries to tell Veronica about seeing Parker and Logan "connecting," she responds, "I'm just trying to figure out which Gilmore Girl you are."
- Hearing Prof. Landry tell the Pepperdine dude that Tim was a kiss-ass and a linear thinker. As creepy as it was, Landry was really passionate about mentoring the good students, as he was with Veronica.
- In retrospect, Tim's appeal to Veronica to help him was pretty ingenious because if he could lead her with the "evidence," she would bring it to her dad. Keeping your enemies close worked, until he made the fatal villain mistake of reveling in getting away with it at the end and revealing too much.
I'm content, although not necessarily satisfied with the ending. Of course, Logan moving on and getting Veronica's permission to ask out Parker wasn't that satisfying either. Well, there's eight weeks of Pussycat Dolls before we see our shrimpy, savvy sleuth again on May Day. So I'll leave you with these questions:
Who will finish up teaching Criminology 101? Does Piz have a chance with Veronica? How long will Keith get to play sheriff?

Hey guys,
Piz is a sweet guy but I think Logan and Veronica will come back together! They've to! Keith'll be a great sheriff, but maybe he's better off as a PI.
Maybe Veronica can take over the criminology 101 cl*** :)
She can teach everyone a lot!
I have never been so disappointed in an episode of VM. From the moment the opening credits rolled, I knew the killer was Tim the TA. Could the whole thing have been anymore obvious? I spent most of the week following last season's finale wondering how I could have missed the clues... how Beaver could have been the killer... how good of a twist it was... and yet how much I would miss the little psycho. And this was a total let down in comparison. I really hope they step things up for next season. As well, I would like to see more of the other characters, Piz, Mac, Wallace. I mean, how are we supposed to anticipate a potential love connection between Piz and Veronica if we only seem him once every 4 episodes!?! And for a best friend, who used to be a constant sidekick and ***istant, Wallace is nowhere to be found these days, only popping in to provide Veronica with the opportunity for a few witty remarks and then he is gone. I am not sure how much more disappointment I can take.
i'm sorry but veronica mars NEVER dissapoints - sure i realized it was tim but not necessarily all along, to me it became official when tim started teaching the cl***, prior to that i thought the show would go in a new way with veronica as his TA. never a low point i enjoyed it and cannot believe we have to suffer the faux band that is *****cat dolls, you think they will have a promotion of veronica guest starring as a hpoefull dancer to solve a dancer murder. ?!! not if kirsten bell has a say, god i love her!
Good episode as it was, I was a little disappointed that Tim, the shi..fty TA really was the killer. Well, moreso that he was caught this season. The whole back-to-back big murders feels more rushed than normal. And the anti-climactic solution to ****'s step-mom?
I wasn't too disappointed. I knew it was Tim ever since Landry said that his phone was bugged and it wasn't Keith or Veronica. It was obvious there was no one else it could be. This episode was still okay with me though, despite my similar desire to see more of the other characters (Mac, Piz, etc.). I just started watching VM this season, so I can't exactly say that it wasn't as good as last season, but I still like watching!
As someone who likes to believe that I solve all of these cases, the bait-and-switch made me realyl think I was wrong about the TA. The entire time I'm thinking, well, maybe he will be a good character to follow Veronica around. And even when he asks her to ***ist in the cl***, I was like, this is crazy. How could there not be a twist...then it hit and I was relieved. But then again, I didn't find the whole Beaver storyline to be that much of a twist. I tagged him early as the one to watch. If nothing else, I thought this season of 3.5, or whatever it was, was really well written and explored relationships better than the previous storylines, not saying that the other storylines fell short in this manner, just that this one really made Veronica and Keith shine.
And I officially hate the *****cat Dolls...To low quality and hopefully lower ratings!
For everyone commenting, you better enjoy Veronica while you can. I'm a media buyer and one of the lead articles on a daily email insider newsletter that I get, says that's its chances for renewal are almost nil Better start those emails to the CW, or it's a goner for sure. Time is of the essence.
I've said it before: Figuring out the killer's MOTIVE is what VM is all about! The clues have traditionally been cleverly spread throughout the story arc.
Which brings me to my only gripe: The clue to Tim's motive was not planted until last night's finale, namely Landry's non-recommendation. So while many observers say they "knew" the murderer was Tim, they could have had no real basis for their hunch.
Better would have been a seemingly throwaway scene late last fall in which we hear Landry's phone call. Then, it would have been possible to tie that to Landry's phone tap reveal, as well as the evidence that Landry was being framed. Even with all that, it would still take a clever viewer to figure out that Dean O'Dell was not the real target of his own murder.
I have never been able to piece all the clues together in four attempts, but I sure love trying. What a great show this is!
My Wife and I both felt that the ending of the show had a very strange feeling. For the first time most of the loose ends were tied up and very few of the continuing characters were present. It felt like the producer had already given up, knowing that the network has no desire to continue.
It seems that the CW is going for the lowest common denominator in its shows. But then, all of television is dumbing down even more than before (see the recent version of Dracula on Masterpiece Theater.) I'm glad that we have mail order movie services, otherwise there would be nothing left for those of us who like clever plotting that allows us to use our intelligence.
I guess that there is going to have to be a Save Veronica Mars campaign. I've watched the show from the beginning and have always enjoyed it. I like the longer story arc's better. Have them solved before hiatus and setting up the new one on the last show before hiatus. Boo for the *****cat Dolls, I guess my Tuesday nights TV time just got shorter. The mysteries aren't even the best part, its the one liners and the Veronica and Keith interactions that are the best. Wallace needs to be back as Ronnie's accomplice more or even Weevil. And Veronica really needs a steady love interest.
