'Beauty and the Geek' crowned
"You can take the blonde to the ranch, but you can't take the bikini off the blonde."
It's catty and rather cryptic comments like this that lost swimsuit model Cecille the Beauty and the Geek challenge. Instead, her rivals Scooter and Megan won $250,000 not only because they were nice, but also because they embraced the "social experiment."
Anyone who scoffs at the idea that BATG is truly about self-transformation should just ask the third season contestants. The ejected couples returned for the season finale to determine which of the remaining couples changed the most and therefore deserved the monetary prize. As soon as this twist was revealed, it was a foregone conclusion: The pouting, baby talking, manipulative and selfish Ceci would lose.
But before the show dropped this bombshell on the finalists, they each had to show their partner something at which they excelled. Megan mopped up Scooter at the tennis court, and he reciprocated by taking her on a hike. Cecille showed her partner Nate her hip-hop moves, which frankly weren't that great, but at least made her seem more approachable.
But Nate trumped them all by performing with his Star Wars tribute band, So Long Princess. His frenetic moves and gravelly vocals showed the less gentle side of Nate, and the lyrics were just pure joy. Here's a sampling of lines from the song "Stormtrooper": "As I step over the carapace of my fallen kin ... I'm a stormtrooper. I'm not a robot."
Good times.
In the elimination room the next day, both couples expected that their final challenge would be the same as the previous seasons': getting quizzed on how well they know their partner. Instead, they were introduced to their judges, their former housemates, much to Cecille's chagrin. "Our task is basically to kiss ass," she said, demonstrating her cluelessness. "I have nothing to say to them."
Ceci had good reason to be worried since she alienated most of her housemates, first by creating a blondes versus brunettes clique and then insulting almost everyone else in her competitive zeal. In the end, she even turned on her staunchest ally when it seemed obvious that Megan would win.
Cecille was unrepentant about not changing her outlook. "If [they 'beauties'] think learned something by some nerdy guy then those girls are as stupid as they look," she declared during one confessional. She made the fatal mistake, however, during a heart-to-heart with her partner. As soon as nice guy Nate realized that his partner remained unchanged from her experience, he launched a campaign to have the judges vote against his own team.
In the end, the remaining couples, voting as individuals, gave the win to Scooter and Megan. A majority of seven judges stood behind the couple with only Jennylee and Matt backing Nate and Cecille (Jennylee was obviously swayed by her feelings for Nate, and Matt liked Ceci calling him a gerbil).
I can't wait till the reunion show to see if Cecille is still sticking to her guns like she was at a CW party in January or if Scooter has had success pursuing acting. And then there's Nate and Jennylee. Was it nothing but a "show-mance" or is the Force still with them?
What do you think about how things played out? Have I wrongfully maligned Ceci? Who was your favorite couple?
outcome was perfect.
Cecille is a real Bxxxx!
Ceci is the reason people judge blondes the way they do..she's too much!!!
Rose | Feb 15, 2007 9:49:02 AM | #The producers should have had the contestants vote for their two favorite individuals. Then both of the guys would have won.
Alex | Feb 15, 2007 10:06:22 AM | #It was a near perfect ending. If Cecile would have won, it would have been as big an upset as some Big Brother finishes. I think it took a lot of guts on Nate's part to convince the other contestants NOT to vote for Cecile and himself, saying that she gained nothing from the experience. (I think what really did it for Nate was when Ceci said "when people say this show has given them a life changing experience, they're wrong" to which Nate answered "Well, I've had a life changing experience, so what does that say about me?") I liked the guys, but as teams Scooter and Megan deserved to win since she seemed to come a lot further. I can't wait to see if Nate and Jennylee are still together (gossip says they are dating long distance). I also can't wait for the next season -- perhaps they can stir things up by having the Beauties be male and the Geeks female.
ed | Feb 15, 2007 10:31:34 AM | #I was soooooo happy Ceci didn't win. She is a terrible person and did not deserve it at all! Kudos to Nate for standing up and saying he'd rather not win the money that way!!! Great guy.
Joann | Feb 15, 2007 11:08:25 AM | #wow Nate was so nice if everyone had hearts like his in would be a better place i mean he said that he would rather not have the money hes a great guy.lol atleast he has jennylee!there so cute togeather.im glade that megan and scooter won they have showed very good team work, but nate deserved to winnot ceci......i am so sad lol what am i going to watch every night on wednesdays:( that was my favorite show lol it was a great show.my favorite person was jennylee nate nadia and mario scootar and megan and dont forget piao lol pie lol

| Feb 15, 2007 12:45:17 PM | #Ceci is a twat, pure and simple.
LLG | Feb 15, 2007 5:14:52 PM | #Nate is so awesome! I teared up to see someone with such a good heart. Scooter and Megan were really a great team and were so cute! I really loved a lot of the cast this time around. Too bad CeCe is the type of person who values all the wrong things while relying entirely on physical beauty (which I don't really think she had)...
LMB | Feb 15, 2007 6:31:06 PM | #Too bad this comeuppance didn't happen sooner. Ceci showed that she does have some talents: alienating other people, manipulating those who are gullible enough to trust her, and acting like a self-absorbed baby. The worst part is that she isn't a beauty. She has hair the color and texture of straw that looks like it needs a good conditioning, and her face looks like a pug dog. It's hilarious that she seems to think she is so hot. So many more deserving teams were booted because of Ceci's underhandedness. Unfortunately, many of the more insecure girls like Jennylee played right into Ceci's hands and voted exactly the way she wanted them to vote, handily getting rid of the teams who were more likely to win (i.e. girls who had any sort of clue) and were trying to get something besides money from the experience.
CCS | Feb 15, 2007 7:49:31 PM | #i loved the show! as a geek myself i enjoyed the basis of the show. i could certainly have learned a thing or two. i am a woman geek. not just men are smart. would it work with terribly handsome men partnered with very intelligent woman?

angel | Feb 15, 2007 8:24:00 PM | #Of the remaining teams, the best won. Cecille is a terrible person and if she really has friends in LA, they are very welcome to her. She's not even that pretty - her figure's ok but her face looks puffy in all the wrong places. Jennylee is a wonder and I hope that she has a great life. Nate really stepped up and grew a spine the last few weeks. First, he started to believe in his own worth (thanks, J!). Second, he graduated from amiable sidekick to leading man when he jumped out of a window for one last kiss from Jennylee. And then, the topper of all the toppers, he blew up his own ship instead of letting it bring Cecille to the island of victory. This is a man of honor, and massively huge kudos to him. Scooter did very well and supported Megan while she showed a great spirit and a lot more brains than I expect most ever gave her credit for. About the only thing that Megan ever messed up in was letting herself get dragged into Cecille's high-school "popular" attitude, but she was certainly never mean about it. A satisfying ending.
Nick Danger | Feb 21, 2007 7:01:21 PM | #I think that Ceci is a bitch w/ a fat stomach. Jennylee is fake and I dont think she really likes Nate, I think she was hoping that if Nate won he'd share the wealth w. her, but since neither of them won I doubt they will be together. I think Nadia was the nicest and she should have won, all the other girls were bitchy or really stupid and ugly.
Nadya | Feb 24, 2007 3:47:31 PM | #Lord answered my prayer. i already found the guy i wanna be with forever.
SCOOTER, i love you so much. you're so hot. and so geeky too. lurv lurv lurv.
Yay, they won
Yuan | Dec 4, 2007 7:43:27 PM | #What evidence do you have to suggest Jenny Lee doesn't like Nate? She liked him before he looked like winning. And she is not fake, she is honest and way cool.
