Sunday ratings: 'Grease' is kind of the word
The numbers still aren't final, but here's a little more on Sunday night's ratings.
Given that FOX had a huge lead-in advantage with its NFL playoff game, which ended right around 8 p.m. ET, NBC has to be pretty happy with the premiere of Grease: You're the One That I Want (as evidenced by the fact that the network did a ratings press release today).
The 90-minute premiere drew 11.6 million viewers and a 4.3 rating among adults 18-49, the best non-sports showing in that timeslot since early 2004. The show was also pretty consistent across all 90 minutes, its 18-49 rating coming in at 4.2, 4.3 and 4.5 in each half-hour. Against new stuff on ABC, a lead-in-assisted Simpsons and a fresh Cold Case from 9 to 9:30, that's pretty solid.
The new version of The Apprentice didn't fare quite as well (9.1 million, 4.1 in 18-49) from 9:30 to 11. Still, those figures are pretty well in line with its most recent season premiere (9.7 million, 3.9 in 18-49) last February, when the show aired on Mondays. That suggests The Apprentice has a core group of fans that will follow the show to whatever timeslot, but its phenomenon days are long past.
Assuming those two shows can stay reasonably close to their premiere levels, and that Crossing Jordan is its usual dependable self when it returns next week, NBC will have made its first post-football transition a pretty smooth one.
