Jason Gedrick = George Clooney?
Is Jason Gedrick audience poison, the high prince of showkillers, or is he just an yearning artist in quest of a hit?
Gedrick and his Kings of South Beach co-star Donnie Wahlberg (himself the veteran of The CW's instantly cancelled Runaway) gave the question some thought at the Television Critics Association press tour panel for their upcoming A&E telefilm.
"You know... actors can only control what they can control," says Wahlberg. "And that's really, hopefully, to have a few choices and make the right ones and to show up and do the work. And you know, for -- you could easily take the perception that Jason Gedrick has sort of been like a George Clooney and his ER hasn't come in yet. He's done a lot of pilots and a lot of quality stuff, but..."
Gedrick, who appeared with Wahlberg in NBC's cancelled-too-soon drama Boomtown, interjects, "Would you repeat that, please?"
"Well, a better-looking George Clooney," Wahlberg corrects quickly.
"Sorry. But to me, I look at it as this kid is a veteran."
Wahlberg's right. The pre-ER Clooney would have killed for a resume that included lamented gems like Murder One, EZ Streets and Falcone.
The former New Kid on the Block is generally savvy when it comes to the peculiarities of fame.
"You know, Paris Hilton is a huge star, probably bigger than both of us, and what does she do?"
Seconds later, Sonny Grosso, one of the producers on Kings of South Beach puts everything in perspective, noting, "Although we all really enjoyed Paris Hilton's film, didn't we?"
I like jason gedrick. I just think he has had some bad luck with his projects. just hang in and keep trying. he is extremely good looking also!
jwright | Jan 11, 2007 7:26:26 AM | #Grosso says Paciello recently approached Gedrick on the street in LA. "You playing me in a movie?" he asked.
"Somebody like you," Gedrick answered.
"Well, at least they got a good looking guy," the not-so-protected witness said. Then he moved on down the street.
The south beach report | Mar 15, 2007 3:58:17 PM | #I've loved Jason since Murder One and ANYTHING that he is in, I will watch ... I hope he finds the right project soon, he should be a major star by now.
Lisa | Mar 16, 2007 7:59:32 AM | #I loved Jason's performance in this movie. In everything I've seen him in, he actually carries that body of work.
Plus being FINE never hurts.
Fran | Mar 16, 2007 5:12:38 PM | #Jason can't act. He's not believable and his mouth is off centered which makes him enounciate weird. This dude needs to grow a moustache. Just because your good looking doesnt mean you can do the job, and in this guys case it's obviously so.
Julie | May 5, 2007 3:53:40 AM | #Pity Julie's comment was so negative, but since she seems to be illiterate she's easily dismissed. Jason is super at what he portrays, even if it's not Olivier's breadth: sincere, somewhat hangdog in mature roles, and masculine without ever pushing it. He really deserved a better career exposure than he's had, but with what's happening to TV series these days my hopes are probably going to go the way of Windfall.
rakeem | May 20, 2007 12:01:08 PM | #When I first saw Jason Gedrick on Heavenly Kid and Iron Eagle, I knew this man was going to big one day. Than when The Last Don 1 and 2, (okay it is worn out know, watching his entire movie over and over again I just can not get enough) which in my option was better than the any Godfather’s. I adore George Clooney and for Jason Gedrick to be compared to him is right. I adore (love) him in anything he does (sshh okay I a very big fan for years)), Producers and Directors can’t see talent and actor a handsome one at that, it is their loss.
I think Jason should be on Smallville since he looks so much like Tom Welling.
As for him being on Desperate House wife’s they mad a mistake, the producer should have seen the ratings with him on it. Jason your time will come and you are adored by many and you will be bigger than you are now. I can say good luck but you do not need it, there are no English words to describe your talent, when they can invent words you will be the first name on the list. Producers and Directions and Casting people wake up this man are a star.
I noticed most of these comments are from females and I too find Jason, hot...hot...hot and am a huge fan. I just wanted to add a male point of view. My husband who is now deceased loved Jason in Murder One and The Last Don I and II. I don't think he gets the credit he deserves and feel he will be a big star one day (though he already is to me) if he chooses to be.
Rhonda | Sep 21, 2007 9:28:01 AM | #I had the pleasure of working on a movie with Jason. I was an Exec Producer of the movie Wisegal and he was starring with Alyssa Milano.
Jason is not only a great actor, but he is the kindest, most geniune person I have met in a long time. He worked so hard and was so kind to everyone. It wasn't a "I should be nice to everyone" kind of attitude, it was I ain't no better than anyone kind of nice. Only amazing things should happen for him in and out of show biz. A class act.
i just want to say that jason has a great persona on the big screen and anything that he does i will watch. please hang in there and keep doing what you are doing. your biggest fan.
jamie klavans | Apr 12, 2008 12:03:38 PM | #The only reason I started to watch Desperate Housewives is because of Jason! I enjoy his acting and he is quite the eye candy!!
