'Amazing Race' Finale: Should a million bucks come down to an E-ZPass?
If you're Rob and Kimberly, how ticked off are you after watching and re-experiencing Sunday (Dec. 10) night's Amazing Race finale? You race around the world neck-and-neck with James and Tyler and the entire race turns on picking a cabbie without an E-ZPass.
According to the E-ZPass Information website, the toll collecting technology can save you money and it can process between 250 and 300 percent more vehicles. But who knew the darned thing could win you a million bucks.
Congratulations to Team Smackhead. I hope they don't blow it all in one place. But seriously, we applaud their ongoing quest for sobriety.
And I applaud Rob and Kimberly for their second place finish, not a bad achievement given how utterly dysfunctional they seemed as a couple.
And also congratulations for Karlyn and Lyn, who failed to become the first all-female team to win the Amazing Race, but did remarkably well for a team that never seemed particularly smart, athletic or aggressive. Oh and can Karlyn and Lyn honestly both be only 32 years old?
A few quick thoughts on the Amazing Race finale:
Any thoughts on the finale? How about the season as a whole? What were your favorite moments of Amazing Race 10?
Congratulations! You get to break the news to your family!!!... on this Sprint phone. Now, even though we happen to have a camera at your folks' place, this phone can't receive video. I'm truly sorry.
What kind of cab, in New York City, a place I'm told has plenty of toll freeways, doesn't have an E-Z Pass? Rediculous.
Colin | Dec 10, 2006 8:13:05 PM | #I don't think the EZ-Pass was the great equalizer, I think it was getting the flight from Paris. I'm still pissed that Lyn and Karlyn got shot down. I wish they would have won it all, but I can at least rest happy knowing that Rob and Kim lost. I just hope the model boys don't relapse. $1-million will buy you a whole lot of drugs.

That was a boring finale. Good thing it wasnt the regular 2 hours.
I hope Amazing Race All Stars is better.
I wished that Lyn and Karlyn had won. They worked well together, level headed in their thinking and have a great sense of direction; they overcame so many misfortunes. A note of congrats is in order coming in thirds
cheryl | Dec 11, 2006 9:42:49 AM | #I was rooting hardcore for Tyler & James. They played well and didn't fight with eachother. It was so great to see Kimberly fall down at that one clue. I had to rewind my TiVo a couple times. The EZ-Pass was not something that the producers could have controlled or probably even thought about. It would not have come down to that lucky draw if one of the two teams wasn't as knowledgeable of New York's public art. Both teams had little trouble finding it, but most people would have. Same goes for not having any trouble finding St. Basil Academy. And speaking of, what the hell kind of finish line was that. I've never heard of the place.
Jason | Dec 11, 2006 10:50:38 AM | #T & J deserved to win; they really dominated most of the series. Not my favorites, but they deserved it.
I couldn't believe when Phil whipped out that phone. I know they gotta pay for those last minute plane tickets somehow...but come on! How cheesy. Phil looked sheepish, too. He knew how it looked.
I'm REALLY hoping there aren't as many equalizers on the All-Stars. It is incredibly annoying to see a team get a great break / huge lead, to have it taken away when a museum doesn't open until 9 AM or something like that.
Love the show, lose the product placement and the Equalizers.
(And getting a cab with no E-Z Pass isn't an Equalizer. It's Bad Luck. Or Karma. Maybe Rob shouldn't have whined like a 2 year old over the skydiving.)
Mavourneen | Dec 11, 2006 10:56:29 AM | #Trust Me - Going through NYC tolls with a cab driver that DOESN'T have an EZ Pass is very common. Just one of those crazy but wonderful NYC things.
Congrats to T & J - they played well, they played fair, they played nice.
Kevin | Dec 11, 2006 11:19:57 AM | #I love TAR, it's one of my favorite shows, but I, too, found the finale a little boring. I don't think it was challenging or long enough. Once they arrived in the US, I think there should have been more tasks and that the tasks should be more difficult. Overall, it was a good season. I'm very excited about the All Stars edition. I hope they include the older couple from season 1. Any of you remember them? They were one of my all time favorite teams.
yj | Dec 11, 2006 12:36:05 PM | #If the team that had the cabbie without the e-z pass had any common sense they would have motivated the cab driver with the promise of a handsome reward if he ran thru the e-z pass lane and accepted the fine in order to give them a chance at the 1Million. Certainly If I were driving and they offered me at minimum payment of all fines if they lost and another say $10,000 if they won he would have run thru the lane. No- Brainer. To win that race you must have the ability not to just "accept" every situation as it is and constantly be thinking of ways to advance faster.
Tap | Dec 11, 2006 1:14:52 PM | #I think that Tyler and James totally deserved their win.... they weren't immature and annoying like rob and kymberly and they weren't lazy like karlyn.... they played hard the entire time! The moment when Kim screeched that she was leaving during the tomato throwing task was priceless.... that will forever be stuck in my brain! I've never heard someone above the age of 5 screech like that!!
And I agree with most the posts on here about the last episode being a little boring.... there was more excitement in previous episodes.... i expected awhole lot more outta the finale, but hopefully there will be more in the next season! I can't wait!!!
YAY!! | Dec 11, 2006 1:49:58 PM | #As far as "ugly Americans" go, I think Rob & Kimberly are the worst we've ever had on TAR.
I still can't believe she kept saying "mask" instead of mosque.
Jason | Dec 11, 2006 2:00:33 PM | #I guess that explains why the finale was only 1 hour. Hopefully the million dollars won't cause the models to have a relaspe.
Bobby | Dec 11, 2006 2:20:41 PM | #I was T&J fan all the way. But the phone at the end was ridiculous. Even worse was the camera at the parent's house. LAME! And the Dad's eyebrows were out of control! He looked like a mad scientist.
ARFan | Dec 11, 2006 3:17:18 PM | #I loved Tyler & James! They deserved to win the money!
they were the niced ANd most polite of the teams!
ROCK ON TYLER & JAMES
low | Dec 11, 2006 3:44:48 PM | #Tyler And James Were My Favorite Team Ever And I'm Glad They Won!!
Sean | Dec 11, 2006 5:07:37 PM | #I'm just glad team Alabama (Lyn and Karlyn) did NOT win :) The skinny one is/was such a biatch! As for "ugly" teams, Rob & Kimberley where far from the worst team we've seen on a season of the Amazing Race... I can think of 3 teams that where much worse.
The finale was boring because of 2 things: poor chalenges and the lack of Team Barbie who sadly got eliminated the week before.
One of the best finales ever was the one where 2 teams had to put the flags of the countrys in the order they visited them during the race (the one where the hippies won).
Now for the All Star Season in February, I hope they bring back Team Jackass/New York from Season 1 (the 2 fat & bald loud/foul mouth 30 somethings with thick New York accents from Season 1).
They where by far the BEST/most entertaining team to ever play the amazing race.
Also they should bring back Rob and Amber... the producers owe them as much for screwing them out of winning the amazing race (the fact that the other team got on to the plane when the corridor had allready been removed was utter bullshit! Only POTUS or the POPE would get such treatment... it's SO obvious that the producers meddled and payed of airport officials to make that happen that way it wouldnt be a 1 horse race to the finish (which it should have been).
I was rooting for Lyn & Karlyn. I thought they worked well together and came back from lot of near misses to be where they were in the finale. However, Tyler and James worked hard throughout the challenges so they deserved their win.
I am glad the Barbies weren't in it as I thought they were up there with Rob and Amber on being one of the most conniving teams ever.
pepper | Dec 12, 2006 12:57:10 PM | #Bama made a big mistake with going to Orly Airport for the flight to New York. I applaud them for attempting something called strategy (as opposed to just following the other teams around), but it bit them in the ass. Anyone who knows anything about travel (or is going to compete in TAR) should know that Charles DeGualle is the primary airport for Paris, and thus is likely the only airport with international (overseas) flights. I know that London Gatwick is an exception, but usually a secondary airport like LaGuardia in NY and Houston Hobby is only going to have domestic flights. They should have known the risk they were taking. But even if they had all made the AirFrance flight, Bama was out of it anyway because they could never have kept up with the other two teams when they had to travel on foot to the the Alamo sculpture in the East Village. They probably would have been lost on top of it. It should have been Dustin & Kandice as the first all female team in the final three. That certainly would have made for a more intense final leg.
Jason | Dec 12, 2006 6:08:23 PM | #tyler and james deserve to win.I was palpitating so much that I thought I was gonna have a heartattack while I watching the finale. It as most exciting show I ever seen.I pray all the best and good luck to tyler and james. How incredible outcome to them after drugs and hard life before.I was so happy when they come to finish line in New york.I was just jumping up and down with joy.I can't even describe how happy I was for them.tyler and james, put drugs in past and be successful with life!
myoung rose | Dec 14, 2006 2:54:44 PM | #To the person who posted that Lyn/Carlyn were the worst team that did somewhat well on the show....have you ever SEEN Zach and Flo? Terry and Ian? Ugh.... There are so many that are worse.
