Where has the Summer gone?
Fresh from seeing Amber Benson on last week's Supernatural, I was all psyched to catch fellow Whedonite Summer Glau (River Tam from Firefly/Serenity) this week. After all, the CW's official website described the episode thusly:
Dean (Jensen Ackles) and Sam (Jared Padalecki) investigate the murder of a college student (guest star Summer Glau) who has come back from the dead seeking revenge on those who mistreated her while she was alive. Upon confrontation, the ghost savagely attacks Sam, leaving him injured.
Alas, it was not to be. Somehow wires got crossed, parts got recast and publicists forgot to update blurbs. Instead, an actress named Tamara Feldman was playing the resurrected femme fatale. No offense to Ms. Feldman, who seems attractive and competent, but she's no Summer.
I could only console myself on two counts. First, the normally goody-goody, Sam finally showed a bit of a moral weakness when he temporarily gave in to his naughty side. While waiting for his brother, Sam is just about to watch Casa Erotica 4: A Tale of Two Latin Beauties on the motel's cable when Dean walks in and ends the festivities.
Also, it turns out Summer will be playing with the supernatural over on ABC Family on Sunday (Oct. 22). In the remake of The Initiation of Sarah, she'll play Lindsey, the non-magical twin sister of Sarah (Mika Boorem) as they go to college and get mixed up with some wicked sororities. Although Summer is described as the meeker sibling who has issues, I'm still hoping that she'll be able to exercise some of sort of ass-kickery.
Are you a Summer fan? Was tuning in also your winter of discontent?

No Summer makes me a sad girl. Maybe they recast the part so she could play something bigger, meatier and recurring?
What a disappointment it was for all the Supernatural fans (you should see the boards). Everyone was wondering where Glau was, and many agree that she would have probably made a little bit scarier zombie. Needless, we are hoping that in the future she'll be able to make an episode, because many of the Supernatural fans are her's too.
No Summer Glau -- No way! After her *** kicking stint on "The 4400" this summer I was looking forward to a little more of her.
Need a Whedon girl fix, check out Julie Benz playing the hell out of her role on Showtime's "Dexter".
I wonder how many people tuned in specifically to see Summer, I bet there were more than a few disgruntled Whedonites and Browncoats!
At least my Summer fix was sated earlier this week with her 2nd appearence in 'The Unit' (and in a bikini too!).
Summer has been on two episodes of The Unit this season, albeit in a minor role (wife of a non-Unit member).
I think her character is featured more prominently in an upcoming episode. Something about her spending habits
I love Summer and wanted to see her on Supernatural. The girl is so talented she should be getting more parts.
Summer was in Supernatuarl. She played the dead chic's roomate! the one that Tamara tried to stab with the scissors. Alas, not a zombie but at least we saw some of her!
The roommate wasn't Summer either. The role of Lindsay was played by Leela Savasta.
Summer was not in this episode at all.
Glau has been popping up on "The Unit" recently, playing a fairly normal young military housewife. She can act.
