As over-the-top as Tuesday's Law & Order: CI could have been -- with its straight-from-the-headlines take on the bogus confession in the JonBenet Ramsey case and Liza Minnelli, of all people, playing the murdered girl's mother -- the show actually underplayed things a little. In fact, the episode made for a pretty effective little Halloween chiller.... More »

So we're down to the final four on Dancing with the Stars, and all four competitors brought everything they could to Tuesday's loosely Halloween-themed edition of the show. But really, this is Mario Lopez's godawful mirror-ball trophy to lose, right? I mean, even the waltz he did on Tuesday -- traditional ballroom routines haven't been his... More »

It was August 27 when Barry Manilow shocked the world, winning the Emmy for outstanding individual performance in a musical, variety or comedy and launching a one-sided feud with thwarted fellow nominee Stephen Colbert. "I lost to Barry Manilow," Colbert moaned later that same evening. "Barry Manilow... Singing and dancing is not performing!" It only... More »

Although he made a brief appearance last week, Monday's Heroes brought Leonard Roberts officially into the fold (that wasn't him playing HRG's memory-wiping sidekick in previous episodes). The show's regular cast is now fully present, so it seems fitting that, more than any previous episode, this one started really to make the connections between our main... More »

The last new episode of House aired over a month ago, followed by two weeks of playoff-caliber baseball and one week of watching the Detroit Tigers make fielding errors. Like most viewers at home, FOX is happy to be done with baseball and to have Hugh Laurie and company back on the air. House returns... More »

Through Sunday (Oct. 29) night's episode of Brothers and Sisters, Sarah Jane Morris was probably TV's most underused cast regular. Although she's nestled in the opening credits right under Rachel Griffiths, Morris -- Julia, attractive wife of Balthazar Getty's Thomas -- averaged less than a line per episode during the ABC melodrama's first five episodes.... What has Hellboy gotten himself into this time? In Cartoon Network's movie Hellboy: Sword of Storms, the red demon with a heart of gold is called to the land of the rising sun in an animated adventure that offers a satisfying, but not quite thrilling blend of action, paranormal eeriness and dry humor. When Japanese... More »

Television history is filled with bad ideas, shows that, when you see them, make you go, "Really? Come on, really?" To that long and ignominious line, we can now add Show Me the Money. ABC announced this game show last month, telling us then that it would be hosted by William Shatner and would include some... More »

It must be a bit sad for Showtime's Masters of Horror franchise. After much bluster, boasting and talk of revitalizing a stagnated genre, the anthology series debuted last fall with a series of mostly mediocre gore-fests. Then, in the time between the first and second seasons, TNT released the Nightmares and Dreamscapes anthology that featured... More »
