'One Tree Hill' Premiere: Who lives? Who dies? Who cares?

Chadmichaelmurray_onetreehill_240_005 When it comes to sheer number of unresolved questions, it's tough to top last season's One Tree Hill finale. Think of all of the plotlines left dangling:

Who survives the limo wreck? Hot Uncle Cooper? Wooden Groom Nathan (James Lafferty)? Formerly Fat Cheerleader Rachel (Danneel Harris)?

Who's pregnant? Brooke (Sophia Bush)? Rachel? Haley (Bethany Joy Galeotti)? Everybody?

Will Brooke ever talk to Peyton (Hilarie Burton) again?

Who wrote "Murderer" on Dan's (Paul Johansson) wall?

What's up with Lucas and Peyton and Brooke?

Why did CW execs think it was a good idea to bring this show back instead of Everwood?

So many questions! Let's get to the answers...

Who survives the limo wreck?
Lucas (Chad Michael Murray) arrives first and jumps into the water (Nathan at least had the good form to do a swan-dive in). He pulls Uncle Cooper out of the water as Haley screams manically for her husband and the new town skank, but Lucas can't find them.  The limo is there, but it's empty! NOOOOOO!!! The opening credits take away a bit of the suspense, since Harris is now listed as a regular (as is Antwone Tanner's reliably funny Skills). Post-credits, Lucas finds Nathan and Rachel face-down on the riverbank and, 14 minutes later, they're all sitting in the hospital. Waiting.

"I guess that's why they call it the waiting room," Lucas observes, showing off the fine dialogue OTH fans have come to expect.

First to come back to life is Nathan. Whew. Next is Rachel, who only opens her eyes when Brooke walks in.

"Slut," "Bitch," "Whore" goes their dialogue. Splendid! But surely somebody's got to be dead! Who'd have guessed that it would be the random guest star whose absence won't impact any major plotlines? And, indeed, Aaron flatlines. Rachel is horrified. But even Cooper refuses to die. The doctors jump his heart like an old Ford Focus battery. Now Rachel's just sad. Cooper's still unconscious as the episode ends.

Who's pregnant? Brooke (Sophia Bush)? Rachel? Haley (Bethany Joy Galeotti)? Everybody?
The episode begins with a flashback to the season-ending accident, including the extra reveal of Rachel's confession to Uncle Cooper that she's with-child. But Rachel isn't actually pregnant, she admits to Brooke at the hospital. Lucas prompting confronts Brooke about the status of her own fertility. Brooke insists that she too is sans child. Wait. None of that. Somebody's gotta be pregnant and that leaves only Haley. But pressed for her secret, Haley tells Nathan that her secret was that she got accepted to Stanford. Nathan notes that the uninsured couple just wasted her tuition money at the hospital.

Who wrote "Murderer" on Dan's (Paul Johansson) wall and is Evil Dan truly reformed?
Dan is trying to clean the words off of the wall, being mocked by Undead Preteen Keith as the police arrive. They aren't there to arrest Dan, though. They let him know that his son's been in an accident. "Which one?" he replies. After seeming all sweet and paternal to Nathan and Haley in the hospital, Dan attacks ex-wife Deb (Barbara Alyn Woods), pushing her into the corner, strangling her and instructing her to be "More than afraid." Booga booga. Since cleaning the paint off his wall wasn't working, Dan eventually decides to just color his whole wall red. That isn't nearly as a menacing as Dan assuring Karen (Moira Kelly) that he intends to be there through her pregnancy.

What's up with Lucas and Peyton and Brooke?
Well, Peyton shows up at the hospital and hugs Lucas and Brooke shows up in time to see Lucas hugging Peyton. That's not good. Later in the episode, Lucas and Peyton have quality time just hanging out and playing cooler-than-thou music trivia games on iTunes. Again, Brooke walks in on them. At least she talks to Peyton, saying "I'd like to talk to my boyfriend alone. Thanks for not hitting on him." She comes to the conclusion that she's been holding the relationship together and now they never have meaningful conversations. She doesn't miss him anymore. She doesn't love him anymore. She can't do this anymore. Lucas can only say that he's sorry. Brooke can only agree. At least this gives Lucas something to write about in his college essay, because there's nothing admissions officers love quite so much as essays about high school romance. As the episode ends, we discover that Brooke is, indeed, pregnant.

That sounds like a lot of dead ends. Were any new issues introduced?
Apparently Peyton has a brother. His name is Derrick.

Apparently Lucas has decided to go to college in One Tree Hill. But will he choose North Carolina University at One Tree Hill (Go Condors!) or NC State: OTH.

Apparently Brooke and Rachel are going to be roommates.

Finally, Why did CW execs think it was a good idea to bring this show back instead of Everwood?

Tis indeed a mystery.

Anybody out there tune in for this one? Were you satisfied by the premiere?

yes i tuned in and was satisfied one tree hill is a good show and yes i miss everwood too they should have let 7th heaven go and kept everwood instead..

One Tree Hill. As much as it irks me, yes I DID tune into OTH last night. I swear, the show is sometimes like watching a car accident waiting to happen (and I guess it really did in last seasons finale. Zing!)

I have a bit of a love/hate relationship with OTH, and as much as I do love my "teen angst" tv, I am getting fed up with the recycling of the Luke, P. Sawyer, and Brooke triangle. I have to say, I really loved the relationship that Luke had with Keith. Yes. THAT was my favorite storyline. In fact, after the first season (when Nate and Luke were still adversaries) the adults had a bit more of my attention. Anywho, what happens? Dan kills Keith. However, that may have been a tactical move on the writer's part, because I was trying to escape from Tree Hill: I mean come on. What were they thinking? Let's bring in the kid from Jur***ic Park, a character that no one knows, but we're supposed to sympathize with? Come on, seriously, this plotline was done better on Degr***i. And on THAT show, you actually cared. Anyway, I had to see what happened after that.

And another thing: I'm sick and tired of Pete Weintz popping up promoting Fall Out Boy on it seems like every other episode last season. I mean Peyton is supposed to be in high school (scoff) and he's supposed to be a rock star. What, he just has time to hang out with minors? Is that even legal? "Hi I'm Pete Weintz, and I make eggs in the morning?" And another thing: Can we please make Mouth stop mooning over Rachel? I mean seriously. How many times can he be disappointed by one person? Once? Twice? Twenty? Because Minkus just doesn't seem to get it. Either get him another potential love interest, or make him realize the fact that in 10 years he's gonna be richer than all of those people.

(Deep Breath) Lastly, three shows: OTH, Everwood...7th Heaven. pause. You mean to tell me out of these three shows, EVERWOOD is the one that gets cut? Seriously? Lets be realistic here. Everwood was definitely the best of this bunch. But I guess the CW had something else in mind. "What goes with our demographic? Hmm Let's not keep the show with the most potential for growth, let's keep the shows that fell safe." I mean OTH aside, 7TH HEAVEN? The show had it's run. It was done. Finished. Finito. And then...in swoops the CW to resurrect it from the dead. Don't get me wrong: I used to like 7th Heaven. No, I loved 7th Heaven.

But in its later years...the love affair died. And now...it's on my hit list. I mean, I came back for the finale episodes. Those "Countdown to goodbye" promos sucked me in. And even the endind: EVERYONE is having twins? ant the same time? Mary, Lucy, AND Sarah? And then here comes Haylie Duff with another kid? Get it? 7TH HEAVEN? Yeah, I got it. NAd as UNBELIEVABLE as that whole thing was...I let it go. Because the show was over. So when I found out that CW and Company had come back to deliver me a double whammy of 7th Heaven and NO EVERWOOD, I was livid.

You know a show is dying when half of the original characters go off the show to do other shows and films. So now we're stcuk with a bunch of makeshift Camdens. What was the statement? "We felt that 7th Heaven fit better into our programming schedule than Everwood"? Not in those exact words, but something like that? Sigh. Oh and no Aquaman? (I realize that I may be more upset about Aquaman than others) Sigh. Well I've gone on long enough. At least Smallville is still here to keep me sane. Thank you Tom Welling.

I think the premier was good. I loved thw show and watched the whole three season and last season finale let me speechless. This season is going to be really good. They should have killed Rachel because she is the worst actress and is so evil. If there is any show that shouldn't have made the air again that would have been 7th Heaven. The premiere sucked so much I couldn't watch anymore.

Why rag on OTH? Light fare it may be but undoubtedly it should be admitted that 7th Heaven is the one that ran it's course and should have been cut. One Tree Hill didn't condemn Everwood, 7th Heaven did. Or better yet ratings, so please leave OTH alone.

Wow. Harsh much?

CW is damned to the lowest circle of Hell. Not only do they have to deal with 7th's corny storylines & OTH's amateur writting. They have to sit by as Runaway sinks like a rock. They deserve everything they get for not supporting quality shows like Everwood.

Peyton=STUPID.

The whole "thanks for the sex" line was just mean and unneccessary, if she really wanted to ever be friends with Brooke again. Plus her mooning over Lucas AGAIN.

Ah, glad to get that out.

Not to mention having the same storyline as Season 1... Brooke and Lucas are a couple, Lucas cheats on Brooke (though this time he didn't quite cheat, yet) and then Brooke appears to be pregnant. No more!! Nore more stupid Peyton angst!!

My boyfriend, who kindly watches the show with me, always didn't quite get why I was not very into Peyton... until the final 2 episodes last season. He was like... what the heck is with Peyton? She appears to be really into Fallout Boy, then she goes and follows her heart to Jake, asks him to marry her, then tells her best friend Brooke she still likes lucas, Brooke's boyfriend? So within the span of one day, it appears she has deep(ish) feeling for 3 different guys??

He wasn't really into that.

Neither was I.

Stupid Peyton!!

I am so sick and tired of critics bashing OTH because thier precious Everwood didn't get picked up!!!!

Get Over It!

While I never watched the show, and will therefore not bash it, I can say that it was NOT OTH's fault it was cancelled.

You all are just bitter. Stop blaming OTH. Stop putting it down because of something that is not it's fault. Grow up!

The premier was good. I liked it a lot. Not enough Naley, but there can never be enough Naley for my taste. I still think it's Haley who is preggers and the Brooke thing was a smoke screen.

And Peyton needs to seek mental help - the girl is seriously messed up in the head!

Thank god I'm not the only one who hates Peyton. All she does is whine. Does anyone really want to see Peyton whining and Lucas brooding for an entire season? There's a reason why the writers saw that Brooke and Lucas were better suited from the first season. Because their relationship works and it makes sense.

Peyton and Lucas will be nothing but a boring disaster.

And ITA with Janey, Peyton doesn't know what she wants. She basically always wants what's not available. First Lucas, then Jake, then Jake again and now Lucas again. Her sudden love for Lucas just came out of nowhere and it's completely bogus.

If the writers for this show know what's good for them they'll let those two see what a huge mistake they're making being together because they just don't work.

And it's totally Brooke that's pregnant. In the first season when she thought she was pregnant, she didn't want Lucas out of pity or obligation then. Makes sense that she wouldn't now either. She's always been independent and able to take care of herself.

WATS WRONG WITH U

one tree hill is the best show on tv

sure i did love everwood and it sucks that it was cancelled but if i had to choose between the 2 i would pick one tree hill the CW made the right decision.

although one tree hill might be hated by most critics WHO CARES critics suck!! and should get a real job! one tree hill has LOTS of fans and thts why it won the Save One Show (kristen from E entertainment) and many other save one show polls and stuff...while everwood didnt win any....conclusion: one tree hill ROCKS....although i love everwood its not as good as one tree hill....CRITICS SUCK....and 7th heaven should jus get the living crap beat out of it

pce out PS no offence was meant to any critics who might read this
