'House' sees shark, decides not to leap
I got very worried last week when FOX showed the coming attractions for Tuesday's House: Alien abduction? Really?
Fortunately, the show kept things more or less in the realm of reality with the case o' the week involving a kid who thinks aliens are out to get him (the levitation scene from the preview turned out to be a hallucination). The hints that Chase might believe in that sort of thing and the persistent sarcasm of the other docs kept the case from going into shark-jumping territory.
Unfortunately, the diagnosis of chimerism, in which one person has two sets of DNA, was already a plot point in a 2004 episode of CSI. Plus, cool-looking aliens in the kid's final hallucination. Nice work, effects people.
I also really like what the writers are doing with House's arc post-Ketamine therapy, with doubt creeping into his mind thanks to the re-deterioration of his leg and Cuddy and Wilson's boneheaded play to keep his shot-in-the-dark correct call on the Addison's patient a secret (those scenes rang a bit hollow to me, but their reasoning, off-base though it may be, at least seems consistent with their characters). And as usual, Hugh Laurie played the hell out of those scenes. Not many actors can make a shot of sitting around thinking interesting.
I think it's safe to let go of any fear that a healthy House would suddenly be a boring House, partly because it's becoming clear that he's not really healthy after all. But mostly, the show's team knows what it's doing, and I have to believe they wouldn't sell themselves out like that.

I must say I was a bit dispappointed in last weeks' episode, but this one more than made up for it. Oh the snark.
LOVE THAT SNARK. The characters the House genere was right on this episode. It is definately in my top 3 of favorite episode so far. I am just waiting to see what else the writer have up their sleeves, but I can tell you one thing, I can't wait. Mr. Laurie of course was extremely great as usual. The rest of the cast did a great job as well.
Best show on TV!!! The writers are incredible. The one liners, the characters, the theme. I will stick up and support this show until the end! I love the writing. Your movie references, and pop culture reference keep me DYING for more! Keep it up!
House has been one of my favorite shows since it began. I found last nights show to be a tad on the "unbelievable" side. Come on guy's........lets get some more believable shows, and get back to the exceptional shows we're used to!
I too had some pretty severe doubts when the word "alien" was mentions and the kid was floating through the room. But like you the 1 word that came outa t the end of the episode was "wow". this will be a long wait untill next week. A big part of me feels so sad for House. To have it all back, and then taken again before he can truly enjoy it ( he wasn't done with rehab yet). And I wanted to whack Wilson across his shins with a cane shaped object for his "masterplan" to teach House a lesson and dragging Cuddy along. ( No she is NOT pregnant ;) ). A "healthy/happy" House defninitely was very different, I don't at all mind going back to the old one, it will be an interesting watch to see where this all will go...
Absolutely the best one-liners on ALL episodes. I love this show and wouldn't miss it for the world. Hugh Laurie is great, and the entire cast is great too. They melt well together, and I bet they have a lot of fun on the set. Keep the great stories coming... I really do hope they can get him off the cane and off the Vicodin....
House can park his shoes under my bed anyday!!
Liked the throwaway line that was an homage to Laurie's "Blackadder" about a "cunning plan"!
We are late comers to the House series but man are we hooked. How hooked you want to know??? My husband bought House series II - we went through that like a dose of salts. We watched the final episode of II series. My husband decided to tape series III and buy series 1 so tonight we start to watch the first year of House to catch up. We love the one liners - crack me up. But I have to tell you that the last episode we watched last night of where House gets shot freaked me out - had to get out of bed and go for a walk - too intense for me.
I'd seen the trailer for the Alien Abduction scene and fearing a shark event had chosen not to watch it. Thank goodness for TiVo.
