'Supernatural' panelists' first time & Season Three details
Starting with a short behind-the-scenes documentary of season two's finale and a three-minute montage of the series, the Supernatural panel consisting of Co-Executive Producer/Writer Ben Edlund, Writer/Executive Story Editor Sera Gamble, Executive Producer/Writer/Creator Eric Kripke and star Jensen Ackles began what was their collective first Comic Con experience. Met with a flurry of flashes from the full crowd, the majority female, Sera said to Jensen, "I've never seen so many cameras pointed at me. I should sit next to you more often."
Highlights:
- Kripke states that Season Three is a "wartime season. It's giddy in the writing room." There will be a lot more action as the Winchesters hunt down the demons who escaped the portal to hell that was opened, and thankfully shut, in the finale. He's also glad to be at this point, having already established all the mythos and history needed to really have the characters cut loose. "There's a point where you set the chess board and then it's time for the fun stuff to begin. And it's time for the fun stuff to begin," he stated happily.
- On the two female additions - Eric clarified that "they are not going to be the girlfriends, they [all] won't be riding in the Impala eating Scooby Snacks." Ruby (played by Katie Cassidy) is "unhinged" and "ruthless" with a big reveal to her character coming in episode 2 - "she's not who she seems to be." Ben, who created the character, explained that Bela (Lauren Cohan) is involved in demon hunting for herself - not because some event pulled her into it like the other characters. When asked how he felt about the addition of the "Winchester girls," as they were jokingly referred to, Jensen replied, "Thank God. Anyone other than Jared." Of course he was kidding, later adding that he and Jered welcomed the new characters and appreciate the chance to build up new relationships and explore how they effect Sam and Dean. Sera added, "These girls won't make the boys happy or satisfied in any way. You're the star of the most nihilistic show on television." To which Jensen dryly replied, "Fantastic."
- Speaking of making the Winchester Brothers unhappy, Sera announced that Gordon Walker (played by Sterling K. Brown) will be coming back and that "bad things are in store" for him. Sounds ominous. She also stated that the character of Bobby Singer (played by Jim Beaver) will get some more attention.
- Jensen on Dean having 1 year to live what he'd do - "I think it's fairly obvious what Dean would do. And he will be doing a lot of that. A lot, a lot, a lot."
- Eric on the "Hollywood Babylon" episode (written by Ben) - It turns out that every note Gary Cole's executive character gave to the fake production was a real note that was given from the studio. "...We hung him and snapped his neck and there was our response [to the notes]." When notes were received on this episode, the studio's response was "'We love it! It's so funny!' Really? Because we're ripping on you!"
- When a woman asks what size engine the Impala has, Eric asks her, "Is that an entendre?" To answer the question, Jensen then launches into a lot of car tech speak that I really couldn't write fast enough, after which Ben states, "Jensen is a man." "A real man," Eric confirms.
- Since "The Yellow Eyed Demon" has been defeated, Sam will no longer have premonitions and he is the sole survivor of the "psychic kids," which Kripke admits he was sick of. And that bit about Mama Winchester recognizing the demon that killed her? Look for a relating big reveal in the second episode.
Sounds like an amazing season! I cant wait!:)
Bethany | Jul 29, 2007 4:48:10 PM | #i wanna know how mary knows the YED !!
Toni-ann | Jul 29, 2007 6:50:14 PM | #is ash coming back????
kimmy | Jul 30, 2007 9:50:03 AM | #Kimmy - No one asked about Ash, unfortunately, so I don't know. But considering we saw his charred hand in the wreckage of the burnt Roadhouse, I'm going to sadly go with no.
Tamara B. | Jul 30, 2007 10:40:54 AM | #Reassuring to know the dynamic of this amazing show will not be spoilt by the addition of the two female characters. Love the fact that Eric Kripke listens to the fans and answers their concerns.
Can't wait for Season 3.
Is it October soon? so looking forward to season 3, can hardly wait!! :)This show is unique!! The best!! - I could go on, but you get my drift... :)
Lucy | Jul 30, 2007 2:19:18 PM | #aww, im going to miss sam having premonitions. I mean it sucked, but i thought he would still get them since he has demon blood in him...but considering he only had visions about demon children i suppose he wouldnt have anymore. Still, the angsty hair obscurage visions were great and it always made me smile when dean rushed over to sam to make sure he was okay.
SO cant wait for season 3, *bows down to Kripke* You are my god and Jensen and Jared are fantastic actors, very well picked. *bows down to whoever picked the casting*
This show just rocks all kinds of socks.
Thanx for the interview and the pics! As an obsessed Aussie Supernatural fan I unfortunately couldn't make the convention. Would have loved to be there to pic Eric's brains for Season 3 (and beyond) secrets. Hopefully one day the Supernatural guys and girls will make the trek down here, we would welcome them with open arms!! Can't wait for Season 3! Supernatural Rules! Long Live Supernatural!

But considering we saw his charred hand in the wreckage of the burnt Roadhouse, I'm going to sadly go with no." Sorry no one thought to ask about Ash - I really liked that character. About the charred hand - We saw Ash in "Everybody Loves a Clown," "Simon Said" and "Hunted" prior to the brief phone call in "All Hell Breaks Loose-one." Ash never wore a watch in the earlier three episodes. Then during the phone call Ash is seen looking at his watch on his left arm (watch stem pointing to his wrist) and he is wearing two sleaveless shirts. The charred corpse has the watch on the right arm (watch stem pointing to the elbow) and has the remains of a yellow short sleave shirt. Besides, with his computer rigged with all of John's research and signs programmed to warn him, how did Ash get surprised by the demon attack? I can't count Ash out, I'll miss him too much. PBR anyone?
Lisa | Jul 31, 2007 8:54:16 AM | #It's entirely possible that Ash made it out alive...or that it was a continuity error. I'm just trying not to get my hopes up. ;)
Tamara B | Jul 31, 2007 2:57:52 PM | #what?? Sam will never have his psychic power anymore...?? ouch~~
Jensen.. he's da man.. hehehe..:D
xanseviera | Aug 1, 2007 12:19:06 AM | #Huh, I really loved Sam's visions so it's a real downer that he's without now. Just crushed all my hopes of a larger plot for why he had them, such as maybe he was born with them and the demon's blood was merely to mark him? Anyhow, ya, real bummer, but I'm still watching season three.
You Can Call Me Blah | Aug 16, 2007 4:58:12 PM | #I'm an Aussie fan, too, so i'm looking forward to season 3, but won't be able to actually see it until the start of next year (most likely). I personally don't want 2 new girls on the show. What happened to the "Winchester boys?" Now it'll be "The Winchester boys and girls" Just doesn't sound right. Anyway i'll still watch the 3rd season, cause you couldn't drag me away from it! My suggestions to the writers are: put an Aussie person on there! And have a younger sister show up (and then die, so that it's not "the Winchester brothers and sisters."
Caitlin | Aug 18, 2007 4:01:36 AM | #omg! i luv supernatural both jared and jensen are fipin hot! i hope season three is great but im just tying to figure out when season 3 starts!

BlackmambaX7 | Sep 4, 2007 10:55:17 AM | #Yea I really want jo and ellen to come back in season 3, it would be funny to see how she reacts to sam since last time he was with her he hit on her then tortured her (alough she does know he was possesed)
