Sony Presents Multiple Millas, the Kill Switch and Hobbit News

Millajovovich_residentevilapocalypsWhile Resident Evil: Extinction looks like everything a Resident Evil movie fan could hope for from a Resident Evil sequel and 30 Days of Night looks downright terrifying, the most interesting parts of Sony's Saturday (July 28) Comic-Con panel had little to do with the promoed films.

Paul [Not Thomas] Anderson, producer on the third RE movie promised that "We've certainly made the bloodiest Resident Evil yet," but who could care when the panel started with the introduction of 17 Milla Jovoviches, all dressed in her RE character's familiar red dress. The cloning of Jovovich's Alice plays a key role in Extinction and, in this case, allowed the real Milla to sneak to her seat in a stylish white maternity top.

Jovovich's delicate state didn't prevent at least one fan from proposing marriage, which caused the actress to blush and respond, "Will you take a pregnant woman? Lots of strings attached with me."

The invitation to wed seemed appropriate compared to the guy who walked to the mic, raised an eyebrow at Anderson and just said "I didn't like Alien vs. Predator. What was up with that?"

That led to the first use I've seen this year of Comic-Con's much discussed Kill Switch, as the questioner was cut off and shuffled away, leading Anderson to sneer with contempt and maintain "Well, I'm sorry. Lots of people did."

Things were more respectful at 30 Days of Night, though the presence of Sam Raimi, a producer on the film, led to more than a few questions about other projects.

The Hobbit?

"Um... Right now I'm not involved in The Hobbit. It's a great book and I've got a lot of respect for the great director who made it, Peter Jackson, and he might one day choose to make it. That's my knowledge of it."

A fourth Evil Dead movie?

"One day my brother and I would love to write a part four of the Evil Dead movie and we've also talked about hiring a young director, who has a strong vision, of making a remake of first Evil Dead movie. But we've been so busy on the other movies we really haven't had a chance to address it. Maybe I can get to that soon."

My favorite line of the panel came from the original graphic novel's writer Steve Niles, who said that his goal was to make bloodsuckers scary again.

"We've turned vampires into Count Chocula," he railed, "And teenage girls are dating them."

I'm all for a fourth "Evil Dead" movie. But please Sam, don't remake the first one. It was perfect. We've had completely unnecessary remakes of "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre", "The Hitcher" and "The Fog". And the remake of "Halloween" is coming out. No way will it ever measure up to the original. Stop the madness!

The Count Chocula line is great. A shot across the bow for Buffy and Angel fans.
