Fans cheered the fashionably and deliberately late appearance of Lucy Lawless for the Saturday afternoon women of Battlestar Galactica panel.

Sure, there's always been love for the former warrior princess, but her presence signified that her character, the cylon Number Three (aka D'anna Biers), would be returning to the series after getting the cylon version of banishment last season.

"I'm getting unboxed," confirmed Lawless. "Dean Stockwell [who plays Brother Cavil] has been playing with the D'annas in the comfort of his own quarters. Up till now it's been a long, cold exile, but I'm coming back towards some trouble."

The show's producers will bring her back for the midseason for at leaset two episodes. This revelation would have been more dramatic had the Sci Fi network not already sent out a press release that morning announcing her return.

L awless was just one of the fine women of Battlestar featured that day, which began with a hilarous video montage of all the show's female characters exclaiming "frak" throughout the years. Also on the panel were Katee Sackhoff (Kara "Starbuck" Thrace), Tricia Helfer (Number Six) and Mary McDonnell (Laura Roslin), who weighed in on the return of her character's cancer.

"[I was ] a little ill, a little frightened that I was going to be killed. Still am. Hoping I'm last," said McDonnell. "But actually kind of glad ... gratified that we didn't just let it disappear just because it may have been convenient or better storytelling ... I must say too, that part of me was tickled because I never really liked the idea that I got saved by the DNA of a cylon."

An even bigger deal this season will be how the show explains Starbuck's survival after it appeared that she blew up last season and then suddenly came swooping back hale and hearty in her Viper.

Although Sackhoff was initially instructed to keep her survival under wraps in order to surprise fans, the producers were unprepared for the backlash of "killing" Starbuck from the cast and crew who weren't in on the secret.

"I'm getting a call from the studio like at 6 o'clock in the morning," recalled executive producer Ron Moore. "'You've got to do something. All hell is breaking loose in Vancouver. Yeah, there's a mutiny on the set. They're going to burn the place down because we've killed Starbuck.' So suddenly a flurry of phone calls went out to explain ourselves. David [Eick] and I had to say, 'Oh, we're sorry. We weren't trying to trick you. We wanted to keep it a secret.'"

As for Sackhoff, she played her part a little too convincingly.

"I get a call from David on a Sunday, knowing that I'm in trouble because David doesn't return phone calls anyway," said Sackhoff. "So on a Sunday, I was like, 'Oh my God. What did I do?' And he's like, 'Katee, we hear that you've been crying on set. What are you doing?' I was like, 'I'm not crying. I know I'm coming back. Obviously I'm not crying.' He's like, 'Well, you're doing too good of a job.' 'David, you told me to sell it. I'm an actor.'"

But coming back from the dead will be bittersweet for Sackhoff since the fourth season also will be the show's last. Moore described the set as "senior year in Vancouver" since the show has grown, learned, created a family and found its footing, only to have to leave it all behind after four years. Both McDonnell and Helfer agreed that there's a renewed intensity on set, especially as the scripts progressively and purposefully move toward the conclusion.

Sackhoff doesn't intend to completely leave Starbuck behind though.

She explained, "I told Ron Moore that on my last day I'm going to put my flight suit, gunbelt and helmet on and drive home."

pos? I think not. This show is much more dramatic and intense than the 20 episode campfest from the 70's could ever hope to be. The talent of the actors on this show is superb and I'm glad we'll get a real ending. BSG is amazing and I'll be sad to see it go.

I honestly started watching Battlestar Galactica back in season 2, only because Lucy was going to guest star on the show in an episode Final Cut, and she was awesomely good by the way and the other ones after that, but too my surprise I got stuck with the show. I got fasinated with the storylines and all the drama and action in it. The story is really great, it keeps u hungry for more. Men...since Xena Warrior Princess ended, I haven't been devoted to a show since...until now. This show is really one of the best well thought out shows on TV ever made in my opinion. Cant wait for season 4 start already. BSG ROCKS!!!
