'American Idol' judges' choice week wish list
We've reached the week in "American Idol" where the theme is basically a free-for-all. The judges each get a choice and the contestants each get a choice, so my Wish List is basically songs I've suggested before that I didn't get to hear.

Here are my weekly "American Idol" song choices for the contestants. I'm operating under the assumption that the theme is 70s-80s Rock and that the second song will be a duet, so we're working through all possible extrapolations for that. Tell me what you think of my choices below!

It is being reported on Top Idol that the "American Idol" theme for next week is going to be limiting the rock songs to the 70s and 80s (awesome) and that the second song is going to be a duet! Frankly, that sounds like an excellent risk to take. I can just picture Adam Lambert and Allison Iraheta doing "Close My Eyes Forever" or "Paradise by the Dashboard Light." Hee! Whether this is true or not (for all I know this guy's "sources" are the voices coming from his neighbor's dog), it certainly is fun to speculate.

The "American Idol" Rock n Roll Mentor next week is Slash from Guns 'n Roses. It makes me wonder what the parameters of the theme are going to be because if you are doing all Rock n Roll, that could be anything from Jerry Lee Lewis to Great White to... some other, more current rock group. Heh.I'm excited to see Daughtry and No Doubt perform, though it is giving me flashbacks to the Idol week theme that was, basically, any artist Gwen Stefani had ever heard of, ever.

Our theme this week on "American Idol" is the Rat Pack. Despite my little Breakfast Club joke falling flat, I'm pretty excited about this theme. I love songs from this era. I think it will actually be a good week for everyone left, which makes me fearful for my beloved Allison. I may have to vote again this week! With no further ado, here are my choices for this week.

The "American Idol" theme for next week is Rat Pack Songs. Out of our Top 5, I see Danny Gokey as the jock, Adam Lambert as the criminal, Kris Allen as the princess, Matt Giraud as the brain and Allison Iraheta as the basketcase. Oh wait. Rat Pack. Got it. Should be a fun theme, I love me some "Mack the Knife." Also, Taylor Hicks is performing on the elimination night. Do you suppose he still gyrates about like he has Tourettes? Can't wait to find out!

Kris Allen wowed the judges with his own take on Donna Summer's "She Works Hard for the Money," during Disco Night on "American Idol." But just as he got fundamentally instrumental, Lil' Rounds disappointed yet again with a Chaka Khan song and Matt Giraud went the way of the Bee Gees, who probably would have done better if he chose another ditty to perform.

I'll be upfront with you guys: I hate Disco Week on "American Idol." I think it is ridiculous to make the contestants sing disco. They aren't disco artists! But Andrea, you say, they do country week and they aren't country artists! This is true, but country is still alive and well as a musical genre, whether you like it or not. Disco is dead, folks. Stop making them sing it!

Some say love it is a river, and Lil' Rounds did her level best to keep the "American Idol" movie theme afloat, but somehow the Bette Midler song from "The Rose" didn't win over Simon Cowell.
Kris Allen decided to"take this sinking boat and turn it home" on Tuesday's "American Idol," taking a risk by selecting the haunting, Oscar-winning ballad "Falling Slowly" from the "Once" movie soundtrack. It paid off -- for Kris and the song.
