Who gets the next 'American Idol' record deal?
We reported yesterday that "American Idol" winner Kris Allen has signed with 19 Recordings and Jive Records. Today Adam Lambert signing with 19 Recordings and RCA Records has been confirmed, though it has been a tad overshadowed by other news.Who will (or should be) the next Idol signed to a deal from this past season? Danny Gokey finished in third place, but I can't really see him being the next signee. He never really defined what kind of album he would make in his tenure on the show and he seems to be more excited about participating on "Dancing with the Stars."
I think it's got to be Allison Iraheta who signs the next record deal. She very clearly defined herself as a bluesy rocker chick on the show and I think an album in that vein would be really successful.
The next most logical choice? That's a tough call but I'm going with Matt Giraud. With the right songs, he could have a very successful album. I think they need to play up the Justin Timberlake similarity and also get him behind the piano again.

Allison will get her press release..they are already setting up her official site: allisonirahetaofficial.com...The domain is owned by the same people who set up Kris.
Plus, producers/songwriters have tweeted that they have met Allison in meetings with her and Jive.

Matt Giraud definitely deserves it. He has the chops to make it really far in the music industry. I would like to see him and Allison signed, and I think it would be idiotic of Simon Fuller to not do so.

I am really looking forward to a CD from Allison. I downloaded all of her AI studio tracks, burned them to a CD, then played the CD, in it's entirety, on my weekly radio show. She could easily use those tracks, then add some more tracks to fill out the CD, and have a fantastic CD debut!
I think Matt Giraud should be the next to get signed. He has such a strong fan base already. Matt is a very talented artist! They would be crazy not to sign him.
Matt Giraud, definitely! He has the potential for longevity, crazy piano skills and a recording voice to die for. I know he doesn't necessarily like the JT comparisons, but I think they are accurate, as far as his versitility and adaptibility to a wide array of genres. If the folks at 19E/Sony don't want Matt, I'm hoping that a Warner label will sign him. That is, after all, the company that employs Kara DioGuardi as their VP of A&R, and we know how Kara feels about Matt!

Matt Giraud should definitely be next in line for a contract. He is immensely talented and capable of fitting into any number of different genres. His studio recording of "You Found Me" should be proof enough to any record execs of his ability to make current (ie. marketable) music, in the same vein as The Fray or Gavin DeGraw.

No question: somebody has to sign Matt. His popularity has gone up since the show. I bet he was splitting votes with Kris and Danny. Nice guy, too. Met him last week in Kalamazoo. He was with the kid that he mentors for Big Brothers. Good role model.
