Americanidol_logo_240 Perez Hilton tweeted a few hours ago, "We think it's almost time for All-Star "American Idol", featuring contestants from former seasons competing against each other. Cool, right?"

This really got my wheels turning and I think the Idol producers should contact me post-haste to work out the details. First off, it's a fabulous idea. There are plenty of past Idols that people would love to see again.

Secondly, FOX could run it in the Fall.  If the regular judges don't want to be involved, I don't think it's a problem because people are tuning in to see their old faves.

Here are what I think the parameters should be:

**There is no initial audition round, which is a win for everybody. I hate that part of Idol anyway.

**We start with a Top 40, split into 4 groups of 10. Each group performs one week and the top 2 vote getters advance to the Top 12. There is then a Wild Card week where the 3rd, 4th, and 5th place finishers from each week perform and the top 4 advance.

**The Top 12 works like any normal season, with one person going home each week.

**The rule is that nobody who won can compete. I'd like to make it the rule that the Top 2 cannot compete because then Clay Aiken would be ineligible (his fans are certifiable), but I'd also like to see Bo Bice or Diana Degarmo or Katharine McPhee back, so I think only winners are ineligible.

**Anybody who made it past Hollywood Week is eligible.

Here is my list for the Top 40: Tamyra Gray, Christina Christian, Nikki McKibbin, Josh Gracin, Kimberly Locke, Kimberly Caldwell, Julia DeMato, Clay Aiken, Matt Rogers, George Huff, Diana Degarmo, Latoya London, Amy Adams, Mikalah Gordon, Nikko Smith, Nadia Turner, Anthony Fedorov, Vonzell Solomon, Bo Bice, Katharine McPhee, Elliott Yamin, Will Makar, Lisa Tucker, Leslie Hunt, Phil Stacey, Blake Lewis, Melinda Doolittle, Chris Richardson, Gina Glocksen, Alexandrea Lushington, Syesha Mercado, Brooke White, Carly Smithson, Michael Johns, David Archuleta, Jesse Langseth, Alexis Grace, Ricky Braddy, Alex Wagner-Trugman, and Allison Iraheta.

I included Clay Aiken because you just know he'd come back and I included Allison Iraheta because I love her, though I suspect she's going to do just fine after this past season. And Jennifer Hudson and Chris Daughtry are conspicuous absences, but I think both have been way too successful to want or need "American Idol" All-Stars.

It's not just Jennifer and Chris Daughtry that would never do this.

David Archuleta would never, ever do this. lol. He's doing an arena tour this summer and releasing his second album soon. He's getting paid upwards of 100K to play shows. And, although he said he appreciates his Idol experience, I get the impression he's in no rush to compete in that way ever again.

Allison (rumored) was signed to Jive records so that's a nix to her as well. I really don't think Elliot or Josh Gracin would do it either. Both have had decent success in their genres (Elliot just released another album). There are others on that list that would probably never, ever set foot again on the Idol stage in a competitive way.

I was just naming off people I want to see do it, Lisa. I'm confident there are many of them who would turn it down.

David Archuleta hasn't *really* had the success that his Idol run made us all think he would, neither have Elliott or Josh. I think they would come on just to promote their albums, let people know they're still out there working. It would hardly be bad publicity (and some say there's no such thing as "bad" publicity).

Anyway, the post was just for fun.

Ummmm, what about RJ Helton...? The most talented guy from season one, and any other season for that matter. Go YouTube his unreleased stuff. It's amazing.

what makes perez think he could do this? he has the worst taste in music ever... he likes lady gaga for christs sake... what a loser hope your plan fails

you forgot Taylor Hicks... yea i said it. as much as he's gone down the drain, he WAS entertaining when he was on his season.

What about Justin Guarini?? His voice is sooo nice, it makes me melt!

Interestig idea... What about Lambert? I agree about not having JHud (I couldnt stand to watch her anyway) Also what about having past winners as judges? After all, they are the real "American Idols." Kelly would be the best, but since she is pretty busy, I doubt she would do it. Some of the other winners are probably desperate enough for the spotlight to do it...

I think this is an awesome idea! I am definitely for this! Good thinking!

How about "real people" as judges, as the real public are the ones that actually buy the music if they like it. I'm available!

i dont think

elliot yamin, david archuleta, katherine mcphee, chris daughtry,or Kimberly Caldwell should be in it. haha. i know ur just naming names but i mean, those people have all released a hit or have become "famous" from being on idol. i would like to see some other people back, who you never heard anything from, like diana degarmo, latoya london, and others.
