Did AT&T influence Kris Allen's 'American Idol' victory?
According to an article in the New York Times, AT&T may have assisted in Kris Allen's "American Idol" win.Edward Wyatt of the New York Times reports that "AT&T, whose mobile phone network is the only one that can be used to cast "American Idol" votes via text message, provided the free text-messaging services at two parties in Arkansas after the final performance episode of 'American Idol' last week." Apparently, AT&T agents were on-hand to demonstrate power texting, or the ability to send 10 or more text messages with the press of a single button.
It does not appear that any such efforts were made at any of the Adam Lambert parties in San Diego, California.

I find it amusing that Mr. Lambert's fans, some of whom bragged that they voted 24,000 times by power texting, are outraged at the idea that Mr. Allen's fans would do the same. A few phones in a region of the country where texting may not be as popular will not materially influence the votes. Power texting by those who are already trained, like many of Mr. Lambert's fans, can influence the outcome. It seems to me that a few of Mr. Allen's fans were simply trying to learn the tricks of the trade.
I'm not ****ed about the power texting, I'm ****ed that they were given free text messaging. That's dumb. I had to pay for it and I'm a poor college student. Kris fans in Arkansas should have had to pay for it too.
This is not about Kris or Adam. This is about AT&T's conduct and the conflict of interest. It needs to be addressed, as it could influence the outcome of any final, any season, for any contestant down the line. Thank you very much for posting it.
both boys are happy leave it alone i am an Adam supporter so no say i am only saying this cause i want kris to win, but i don't think adam would be happy about anything said against kris and kris about adam. they are friends both going to do great leave it alone
Haters! All of Adams fans will try to find an excuse about why he lost... Get over it! He lost! AT&T pays a nice amount of cheese to be a sponsor and Fox only allows AT&T customers to send text votes... Last time I checked I believe there are more people (and I ***ume AT&T customers) in CA than in AR, so if they really wanted their guy to win, then they should have VOTED!! Its not like there was an unfair advantage in AR that CA did not have... a few extra phones at (2) parties, did not influence the vote, the citizens of AR influenced the vote... Go Kris!
>>the citizens of AR influenced the vote
Agree. Arkansas gave us our Arkansas Idol.
Finally, some truth coming out. Unfortunately, we cannot do anything about it now but it will haunt the fake winner. I hopes this will convince AI producers to change the voting system.
Actually, I wasn't surprise of Kris winning. Days before the finale, his school friends has been setting up their computers for power voting and teaching everyone in the block on how to vote for 8 hours (when the allowed time is only 4 hours). It's pretty sad that Arkansas got their first Idol winner through cheating.
fanta - how can you say Arkansas cheated, when those in CA had the same opportunities to do the same things... I think its funny that Silicon Valley got out "teched" by some Hillibillies!
Thank-you for bringing this
injustice to light. There should be an investigation on
this. AT&T has already
admitted to fraud.
SAD SAD news.
