Kellie Pickler Returning to 'American Idol'
Via our friends at the LA Times, the guest performer next Wednesday night is the "American Idol" resident ditzy blonde. She'll be performing her new single "Best Days of Your Life." I'm sorry, but I'm not Pickler's biggest fan and I'll tell you why after the jump.
I used to write reality TV recaps just for fun and giggles before I had this gig. Kellie came back on "American Idol" during the Top 24 of season 6 and this is what I had to say:
Now we get Kellie effing Pickler, looking like a skanky 1950s housewife. I mean, for real, where did those boobs come from? You know how I feel about Pickler? If she really is this stupid (which I suspect she's not), then I can't believe she hasn't been Darwin Awarded yet. And if she's actually fairly with-it and playing dumb for American Idol's schtick (which I think is the case), then I think she is an insidious, disgusting human being. What a great example to set for all the young girls and teenagers who watch this show. I mean, god forbid a pretty blonde girl look like she has an effing brain in her head. It's much funnier to make her look like a dumb blonde fresh off the North Carolina farm because that is how you become popular, young girls of America! Boys will like you better if you appear stupid! The fact that she went along with this schtick makes me want to throw this little Stepford into on-coming traffic.
Don't know Kellie (once had a beer and a joint with her wayward dad Bo), but being a native of her home town and sharing her sheltered upbringing, I have an educated opinion of who she really is. Stupid?...probably not. Insidious, disgusting?...way too harsh!
Doesn't surprise me at all that she didn't know what 'calamari' or a 'minx' was (believe me...her response, 'I'm uh whuuuht??' sounded VERY Stanly County). My guess is she is (or was) very much the naive farm girl she seemed to be. That she played up that aspect of her personality, perhaps for commercial appeal, hardly makes her a bad person.
I remember coming to America for the first time and people were like "are you kidding me" She is too sweet and too naive bla bla bla.
The truth is I was, and people are not use to anymore to this things, they think u are either pretending or just stupid but in reality there some of us out there that truly a clean (I do not know how else to call it) upbringing and were well protected from a society that is eager to transform u in something mean or nasty "just because that is supposed to be normal?"
Leave Kellie alone, I think she was naive but she has grown up, we all do. She is now a strong and beautiful women that wants to succeed in life. God Bless her
Your cynical comments says way more about you and your sellout to fit in with your percieved "crowd" than it does about Pickler. Why don't you just print a list of all the "types" "races" and "accents" you look down on with your long nose.

Andrea is simply say that chances are Kellie Pickler is not stupid and yet went along and played it up for Idol. God forbid a pretty blonde southern girl appear smart.

So it's okay to pretend you're stupid to get attention or because it's a "funny stereotype?" Why wasn't one of the guys that season being the ditz? Why wasn't it one of the other females? Why the pretty blonde with the thick southern accent? Why not set an example for young girls that pretty southern women don't automatically have to be dumb?
It's ridiculous that Idol does that and it's ridiculous that she went along with it.
From what I hear from those that knew and loved her back in her Sonic Burger days, she had a goofy side (call it 'ditzy' if ya want), and a delightful sense of humor. I doubt she needed any coaching by American Idol...rather, she would have needed some coaching to come off differently than she did. It just came naturally and they let it happen (still doesn't make her 'stupid' or 'disgusting') Why not and what's wrong with it?...Who says AI has any 'responsibility' to be anything other than entertaining?
Though she claims to be cute and southern and home grown, her music video "Don't You Know It's Beautiful" portrays otherwise. While the song itself is empowering for young girls' self esteems, the visual impact doesn't come through. In her video, a hot young pretty singing blond is seen crooning about 'inner beauty' amidst "everyday" girls of different ages, races, and abilities. I'm not so sure that says anything to help the message.
Season 5 of Idol was my all time favorite. I enjoyed Kellie Pickler, Elliott Yamin and Chris Daughtry.
Interesting to note, too that all 3 of those Idols sold more CDs than runner up Katharine McPhee!
Wow what cruel and unjustified remarks
about Kellie. Kellie is just Kellie and that is what many people love about her. She is not a phony and that is what I like her about her. On a personal note: I THINK YOU ARE THE DISGUSTING PERSON HERE.
