'American Idol' Rat Pack Wish List
Our theme this week on "American Idol" is the Rat Pack. Despite my little Breakfast Club joke falling flat, I'm pretty excited about this theme. I love songs from this era. I think it will actually be a good week for everyone left, which makes me fearful for my beloved Allison. I may have to vote again this week! With no further ado, here are my choices for this week.
Adam Lambert
I'm confident week in and week out that whatever he picks will be amazing but I think I'd like Adam to do "Let's Face the Music and Dance." It's kind of minor and sultry and I think he could do some really neat things with it. Here's a video of my favorite version of it, it's from the musical version of Love's Labour's Lost that Kenneth Branagh did (a movie I like a lot, by the way). It's Love's Labour's Lost with Rat Pack songs, basically.
Danny Gokey
I'm not Gokey's biggest fan but I think he could pretty much rock "Mack the Knife." It's upbeat with some driving melodies for a big ending. I can just hear him on the "I said Jenny Diver, whoa Suky Tawdry, look out for Miss Lotte Lenya, and ol' Lucy Brown. Yes, that line forms on the right babe, now that Macky's back in town."
Matt Giraud
I'd like to hear Matt get back to the piano and do a stripped-down version of "They Can't Take That Away from Me." It's such a beautiful, sad song and I think a slow, piano-man version would be really pretty.
Kris Allen
I'd like to see Kris get all dressed up in a suit, rock the fedora and do "Fly Me to the Moon." We've seen many weeks of acoustic-guitar-John-Mayer-Jason-Mraz stuff and that's awesome but I think it's time for Kris to show something else.
Allison Iraheta
As the Angie Dickinson of this week (and if the Ford Music Director were any kind of director at all, he'd do an "Ocean's Eleven" thing with this group), I think my Allison could be in trouble. I think what she really needs to do is a Bette-Midler-esque "One for My Baby." I think she needs to have pretty hair and a fancy dress and ditch the rocker chick for one night to really do something classy. I think that would help her stick around. Check out the video below for what I'm thinking. Also, revel in the awesomosity of Johnny Carson and be sad that we don't have anybody like him on late-night anymore.

I DON'T KNOW WHO I WANT TO WIN AND USUALLY BY THIS POINT I HAVE A FAVORITE ALLISON DOING BETTE MIDLER WOULD BE GOOD
I LOOOOOVE DANNY SOOOO MUCH!!!
e****ally when he humps the air
I hope Adam does ''Luck Be A Lady. And would someone please tell Taylor Hicks he's not\a soulsinger and his dance moves are laughable I hope Alis survives Danny overrated another soul pretender!
I'd love to hear Adam do Frank Sinatra's "My Way" I think he could change it up just enough to make it as good as Elvis Presley's version of it. Also, in the song there would be no way he'd have the ability to do one of his high range screech's...which is getting old. His best performance so far this season was Mad World...and there was no screeching.
First, if Adam doesn't win it really is "a mad world". That having been said, whatever Brat Pack song he chooses is bound to be fantastic.
I've never missed an episode of American Idol but these theme nights are starting to wear thin with me. If you want these kids to turn into current artists, let them sing whatever they want each week and you will see that happen. Each week the contestants are limited to singing music from a certain category, which isn't helpful.
I really like Matt and hope he kicks some butt tonight and someone else gets sent home. I never really liked Kris, Allison or Adam, but I know that 2 of those 3 are probably going to be in the finals. Danny reminds me too much of Taylor Hicks.
No matter what Adam does, he will be great. The others are mediocre/average.
Only 1 song this week? Usually when they are down to 5 they do 2 songs. DAMN THAT 4TH JUDGE!!! Cut the comments and let them sing more!!!
You know, BCD, I totally forgot about that. You're right, it's probably two songs apiece. Interesting.
