'American Idol': Nathaniel's nose ring -- no, it's not a conspiracy

Nathanielmarshall We love having smart readers.

Eagle-eyed American Idol viewer Ashley noticed that Nathaniel Marshall was not sporting his nose ring while singing Meat Loaf's "I Would Do Anything" during last night's Group Three performances. Yet, at the end of the show when they replayed clips from all the performances, there it was all bright and shiny.

Hey, isn't American Idol supposed to be live? What's up with that?

As several other Zap2it readers pointed out, yes, the show is live ... for the east coast and central time zones. Those people watching on the west coast see the recorded telecast from earlier that evening.

Still, while those two hours often feel padded to viewers, there's no time during the live telecast for editors to put together the recap clip package that's shown at the end. Instead, those clips are pulled from an earlier dress rehearsal. They're merely there to remind you who sang what and what number to call to vote for them, not to suddenly save or sully a performance.

Why can other live shows provide replays that AI can't? Makes no sense whatsoever.

That's a pretty lame excuse. Sports shows don't seem to have any problem putting together a clip reel within minutes after the game is finished.

There sure is no "dress rehearsal" footage for them to pull from.

Every seen the recap right before halftime of every football broadcast on American TV since 1980? It's not that hard.

Yeah, I think that is a dumb reason. I noticed that something was funny about it when lil rounds changed the words to call this show while she was singing and during the recap is was call the radio..... lazy idol!

You can flip those type of nose rings up so it looks un noticeable

American Idol Slip-ups?

Also, the boy who sang "I guess that's why they call it the blues" knocked over the microphone stand in the "live" version but it was standing during the recap. Secondly, the last woman to sing sand the lyrics "Call this show" while holding her hand up to the side of her head as if she were on the telephone but in the recap the lyrics were "call the radio" with no gesture.

The recap clip of Lil Rounds was different too. The lyrics were changed slightly from rehersal to performance.

In answer to Scott's comment, that secret has been out for years, and I was taught that AI's video operators are not the same people who cue up football replays for a living.

I saw the same exact thing with the nose ring...I live in the central time zone, so I don't understand why you are saying that would make a difference. It was noticable here too!

Who cares about the clips, as

long as America sees the live performances to vote on. It sucks that these people making the comments don't have

anything better to do than to be critical about a nose ring.
