Quick 'American Idol' Thoughts
If you'd like to read the blow-by-blow account of tonight's American Idol performances, check that out over in It Happened Last Night here. Here are your intrepid recapper's quick thoughts after rewatching each performance:
Jasmine Murray, "Love Song" by Sara Bareilles
Upon a second listen, horribly off-key in parts. Not a good song choice and really surprising coming from Jasmine. I reiterate that it's like a Whitney Voice chose a Britney Song.
Matt Giraud, "Viva la Vida" by Coldplay
Other than him losing his breath, I stand by my thoughts that this was decent. He puts in some runs, some growls and tries to make it his own. I don't think it was as bad as the judges thought.
Jeanine Vailes, "This Love" by Maroon 5
Legs for days. But the singing is not good. Not good at all.
Nick Mitchell, "And I Am Telling You," Dreamgirls
This is hard to judge because vocally it has good parts and rough parts. Humor-wise, it was funny and entertaining. But I think Nick Mitchell has worn out his welcome.
Allison Iraheta, "Alone" by Heart
Awesome. Best of the night. I didn't think I could enjoy this song after the original and then the Carrie version, but I enjoyed it tonight. She belts without shrieking at us, which I appreciate it. Well done, Allison.
Kris Allen, "Man in the Mirror" by Michael Jackson
Ugh. He pulls it out at the end, but this is so white-bread-bland-vanilla-forgettable.
Megan Corkrey, "Put Your Records On" by Corinne Bailey Rae
I listened to this with my eyes closed and I reiterate what I said in the live blog: I love this performance. Megan has that Amy Winehouse/Nelly Furtado/Stevie Nicks weird kinda funky bluesy voice and I think this song was PERFECT. I really liked it.
Matt Breitzke, "If You Could Only See" by Tonic
Zzzzzzzzzzzzz. Seriously. And on one of my favorite songs, too.
Jesse Langseth, "Bette Davis Eyes," by Kim Carnes
Sex Kitten. Smoky voice. Loved it. A couple missed notes here and there, but overall I think she's earned a Wild Card Night spot.
Kai Kalama, "What Becomes of the Broken Hearted," by Jimmy Ruffin
The very definition of cheezy karaoke. Seriously, I expected a lot more from him.
Mishavonna Henson, "Drops of Jupiter" by Train
Surprisingly good. I still don't think she tops Megan Corkrey for second-best performance, but it was very strong. I also just thought of who she reminds me of: Luiz Guzman with a wig.
Adam Lambert, "Satisfaction" by The Rolling Stones
I listened to this with my eyes closed so I would not be distracted by his massive shoulder pads. It's definitely the best male performance, but I don't love it. He gets to shouty for my taste. He should advance with no troubles though.
I predict Adam and Allison are the top gender vote-getters and Megan is the next-highest vote getter.

I agree with you about most of them, except I think that Kris Allen was really good and hope that he comes back. Allison was the absolute best of the night. I think that Adam Lambert is amazing but he shouldn't be able to be in this contest, as he is a professional.
Norman was hilarious, and would make a great replacement (at least a guest replacement) for Ryan.
Loved Jesse's voice.
Not a big Megan fan--just don't like her as a person.
Definitely agree with the top three...... personally i loved megan's voice.
WHAT HAPPENED TO THE GREAT AMERICAN IDOL RECAPS THAT USED TO BE ON HERE? I'M SO DISAPPOINTED IN ZAP2IT.....ugh.
I agree, this is such a short recap. I hope it hasn't been replaced by the live blog, which I didn't enjoy at all.
This blog is mirroring this season of AI. Getting pretty boring...
This is terrible - I always look forward to the recaps - I don't like this new format and hope next week it goes back to the way it used to be.
I agree on the comments about the new recap format. Please go back to the way it used to be! A blog that goes on and on is not fun to read. I always enjoyed the recaps to see if others agree with my thoughts on the performances.
Daniel Feinberg's recaps were sometimes the only reason I watched American Idol! Has he been permanently replaced? If so I may have to go into some kind of mourning.
Hate the blog format. Hate it.
And apparently I'm in the minority here, but I thought Adam's performance was horrible. He did not sing; he screamed and shouted. His look is creepy, not edgy.
And still cannot believe that he and Nick/Norman made it through, but Jamar Rogers did not. The judges are truly screwed up this season.
