'American Idol' vs. David Archuleta's Dad
I don't care about David Archuleta's father and his ongoing behind-the-scenes status on American Idol.
Sorry.
I know some of you do, though.
If so, you can follow the story via TMZ here, here and here.
Or a kinder perspective here.
Seriously, how are these stories supposed to make us feel? Are we supposed to feel pity for David because his father is, apparently, mighty tough to have around? Are we supposed to figure that behind every 17-year-old kid who seems polished beyond his years is a father who takes excessive interesting in his career?
One name of warning: Todd Marinovich.
I don't know where i was to suppose to write this, but i'll just say it here.........I been a American Idol fan since the show first started, but My Goodness, this is the WORSE show since it's been aired!!...All the good contetsants, has been voted off(they say voted off, anyway) .This season is nothing about they perform, but all about popularity, not talent at all!!.So many people i know have stopped watching the show........The only reason i'm still watching, is bcause i love Simon...But out of the 3 that is lefted on the show is ONE BIG JOKE!!

Gloria Perniciaro | May 13, 2008 3:12:54 AM | #I just want to say that we all love American Idol and we, meaning our family group look forward to each week of entertainment from American Idol. Sometimes we see talent knocked off that never should have been and others still standing but, these last four are great. As good as they all are, we all agree it will come down to the final two "Davids" and it is truly a hard decision because they are both so great in their own way. In the end, I personally think, David archuleta is the number uno STAR AND WINNER OF THE CONTEST. He has been praised since the very beginning of the show over all and I pray he wins the title which he truly deserves as "THE AMERICAN IDOL".
Patricia Meyer | May 13, 2008 6:18:46 AM | #I DONT KNOW ABOUT YOU BUT I THINK EVEN IF DAVID'S FATHER HELPED WITH SOME SONGS HE STILL GOT TO SING THEM AND I THINK DAVID HAS PROVEN THAT.
TERRY | May 13, 2008 6:43:15 AM | #Response to Dan Fienberg: No one is asking you or anyone else to feel pity for David and the fact that his Dad is tough. That statement is immature and ridiculous. It's just gossip, even if it's true. What about David Cook's brother who is dying; why don't you say the same thing. Maybe in that case you came to your senses are realize what an idiot you are. It's people who think like you that I hope do not vote.
Toni | May 13, 2008 9:02:00 AM | #Toni - I may or may not be an idiot. Can't get into that.
I did, however, leave off half of my point, which I can only attribute to upfronts season and obscenely early wake-up times.
My question wasn't meant to ask if we're supposed to feel pity for David and then leave it like that. It was more to ask what the impact of the ongoing controversy about his father would do to his vote totals.
What I meant to do was point out that it could go two ways: This news either makes people feel sorry for David and they vote for him because he's the plucky underdog trying to get out from under the thumb of his tyrant father. Or this news corroborates the theories that David is a robot being controlled by his tyrant father and it sours people on him. So it was more to raise the issue of whether the news would have any impact on his ability to pull out a victory in the weeks to come.
And my point was that people could respond to the news multiple ways. The same isn't really true of David Cook's brother with cancer.
Does that still make me an idiot?

Daniel | May 13, 2008 9:19:48 AM | #First of all, I've never been a fan of the boy wonder, because he always has rubbed me the raw way. He always has that robot feel to him, and not in a good way like FarmBot Idol Carrie Underwood.
I have to ponder which would cause more harm to David.. winning--which would put his control freak of a father into overdrive--or coming in second, which would put his control freak of a father into a tailspin because there's no other place (since Star Search has been done) to pimp out his son.
Either way, David is the loser here and bound to be the subject of one of E!'s expose on Where are they now?
Stacy | May 13, 2008 11:57:30 AM | #I think it has definitely changed one thing. It seems the producers no longer want Archuleta to win. Saddling him with those lame songs kind of proves that.
Sometimes people make more of a situation than it really is. Whether it's true or not about David's father like all of us we want the best for ou children we do what we must so he to has done so.. The thing is that David did his thing his father did not sing the songs for him face the boy is goooood!!!! Maybe he too will do good like Clay as a second runner!Best Wishes to him in his new found fame!!
