Meet Kevin Covais, Movie Star
In his far-longer-than-deserved run on the fifth season of American Idol, Kevin Covais was nicknamed Chicken Little, after the main character in the somewhat successful animated movie. This summer, Covais will take a stab at becoming a movie star on his own.
While the bitter part of me that had to listen to him sing is inclined to point out that Covais was one of the least musically gifted singers ever to break into an American Idol Top 12 (other candidates include Camile Velasco, Mikalah Gordon and, of course, Sanjaya), I have to give credit where credit is due: Kevin Covais was McLovin' before anybody knew it was cool to be McLovin'.
Covais is, unquestionably, playing the McLovin' role in College, an R-rated comedy set for an Aug. 29 domestic release. That's exactly one week after The House Bunny opens, which means that Covais' Season 5 rival Katharine McPhee will hit the big screen before Covais, though it appears that Chicken Little has higher billing in his movie. At least both movies are more respectable than that Jessica Sierra sex tape.
The House Bunny will almost certainly make more money at the box office than College. Its biggest advantage is that it features the reliable Anna Faris, plus it actually looks funny. The same cannot be said for College, which looks like the worst Judd Apatow movie Judd Apatow ever had the sense to be entirely uninvolved with.
But don't take my word for it. Check out the trailers.
Kevin Covais in... College:
Katharine McPhee in... The House Bunny:
Are you looking forward to either movie?
So can't wait for House Bunny, it looks like it will be hysterical! Adam Sandler is the MAN! Not sure about college though, from the trailer it doesn't look that funny and usually the trailer is at least funny. Although that part with the girl's head falling in Kevin's lap is pretty funny.
Danette | Apr 23, 2008 12:20:31 PM | #Don't be hatin' on Sanjaya, yo. He is one of the MOST musically gifted singers ever on AI. Deal with it.
Sophie [loves Sanjaya] | Apr 23, 2008 2:01:44 PM | #Is Kevin even old enough to attend an R-rated movie...much less "star" in one? It looked alright, but it seems it's missing it's "National Lampoon's..." title in front of it. House Bunny looks way funnier.
Amy | Apr 24, 2008 5:54:02 AM | #Did you read that somewhere reliable? I haven’t seen anything official yet. I still wonder how they can fit in 10 songs with intro clips in one hour, but I hope you’re right!
Janet | Apr 24, 2008 11:41:11 PM | #Neither one looks worth wasting 90 minutes of my life on. Zzzzzzzz
Q | Apr 25, 2008 5:24:29 PM | #College looks like every other frat movie, but Kevin looks like a better actor than Kat. I didn't like Kevin's singing, but I always thought that he was a very well-spoken 16.y.o. when he was on AI.
John | Apr 27, 2008 7:15:43 AM | #So, a mention of untalented Top 12 contestants that doesn't include Jasmine Trias? WTF?
Siansonea | Apr 27, 2008 12:25:49 PM | #
Don't hate on kevin cause he found a niche. he's been doing musical theater successfully for a long time now. there is certainly room in entertainment for someone like him, and he's good at what he does, which is, being him. :)
Kevin is awesome. ^__^
Amen with Priscilla!
