Health scares turn 'American Idol' into a MASH unit

Davidcook_americanidol7_top12party0As if the songs of Dolly Parton weren't exciting enough, American Idol had to weather a pair of medical storms on Tuesday (April 1) night.

Shortly after the episode ended, TMZ was first to report that rocker and audience favorite David Cook was taken to the hospital for tests and treatment for heart palpitations.

Cook, who suffers from high blood pressure and has been dealing with outside pressures stemming from his brother's ongoing battle with cancer.

Cook, who earned mostly praise for his performance of Parton's "Little Sparrow," will continue to be monitored. Media reports add that the 25-year-old Cook was "fine" at back at the Idol hotel on Tuesday night.

I have nothing sarcastic to add here, just general well wishes for Cook's recovery.

As for Tuesday night's other medical crisis? Well, host Ryan Seacrest ran into a metal railing and banged up his knee. Fortunately, as fans of the season's early auditions may recall, Seacrest is an old school jock and the former football player just played through the pain and did his duties with the help of some handy ice packs. You're a warrior, Seacrest.
